West Seattle Crime Watch: Cars targeted by vandalism, theft

Two West Seattle Crime Watch reports tonight – a vandalized car, and a broken-into car – read on:

First, from KM:

Just wanted to let you know that my husband found the words “go home” spraypainted on the driver’s side window of his car when he went to go to work this morning. His car is parked in the alley behind our house at 40th and Hanford. I would be curious if anyone else reported any damage in this area last night.

Second, from Tiffany:

My husband and I awoke to find that his 2010 Jeep Wrangler had been broken into and a 50 lb. black backpack (with his last name on it) filled with books had been stolen. I am sure the criminal thought he or she was getting some good items when they cut through the plastic window, that actaully unzips very easily, and somehow managed to get the bag over the bars that cross over the window. I’m sure at this point they are thinking that the case of bottle water sitting next to the backpack would have been more useful. After talking with neighbors, apparently in the past few weeks several people have fallen victim to car related thefts as well. The one way street behind 42nd Ave SW (just across from the new Safeway) may becoming a hotspot for criminal activities.

KM – was it gold spray paint by any chance? My neighbor’s car (neighborhood close to you) had some damage too.

I left my Jeep unlocked on Sunday night, in High Point and had the pleasure of someone going through my glovebox, etc. Only thing they got was my work phone. Lock your cars and remove your valuables!!!

Our friends’ jeep window was smashed in last night down near Delridge. Nothing taken – looks like they did it just for kicks

I woke up to go to work this morning (8/9) and found the passenger side window to my 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee was bashed in – glass everywhere. We live off of Delridge. Nothing was stolen. Still so frustrating. This is ridiculous.

My vehicle was also hit on Sunday night…I was dumb, left my car open after a quick trip. They took a head lamp, pocket knife and satellite radio, which is dumb because they can’t use the radio… Anyway on 42nd near the Junction. It was my fault for leaving the car unlocked…but it still burns me.

I live in High Point and our neighbors cars were broken into the night of August 7th. We had our Jeep in the driveway with no top on, but we had locked everything up as well as set the alarm.. (as we always do) Nothing was stolen from us but an ipod was stolen out of one neighbors car and the other car was just rummaged thru. Lock your car doors at night people!

One of our cars, located on 46th and Juneau, was gone through last night too. As was one of our neighbors we know because they left his door wide open. If anyone is missing their registration they left one in our parking strip. I am taking it to the licensing place across from Rite Aide on California tonight.

@ED Same reason Honda Civic’s get stolen – easy targets for theft for the most part. You can generally break into them without too much of a ruckus if it’s the type with the plastic/vinyl windows. Otherwise, simply wrong time and place?

Sorry, comment time is over.
