Update: Flyovers scheduled for Seafair Fleet Parade of Ships

Update on the Centennial of Naval Aviation flyovers expected during the Seafair Fleet Parade of Ships this afternoon: We asked for a list, and Seafair spokesperson Melissa Jurcan obliged:

U.S. Navy EA-6B Prowler, U.S. Navy EA-18G Growler, U.S. Navy P-3 Orion, U.S. Navy E6B Mercury, U.S. Coast Guard HH60 Helicopter, U.S. Coast Guard HH65 Dolphin Helicopter, and the T-34 Mentor.

Again, the Parade of Ships in Elliott Bay is scheduled to start around 1:45 – but that information is mostly geared for those who will watch from the downtown waterfront, so be looking out at the bay from West Seattle sooner if you’re interested, and keep an eye out here (as well as on our Facebook and Twitter channels) for updates.

So how early do you think will be the best views from West Seattle?

Last year, we posted an update at 1:52 pm saying “they’re here.” I don’t remember exactly where I was – I think Duwamish Head – or whether they were visible sooner from further west – but I’m going to be in place around 1 pm just to be on the safe side, since I can work while waiting :)

Vacillating between the Duwamish Head railing and the Luna Park railing :)

    you mean jack block park?

    • WSB August 3, 2011 (11:41 am)

Nope. For my purposes, it’s important to know exactly when they come into view, and that’s too far east. I think photographers will get the best shots from there or Seacrest – my job is to be timely more than to have a beautiful photograph :) The Duwamish Head “railing” is how I think of the small parking area right at the tip of Duwamish Head, with the dozen? or so angle-parking spots right along the traffic lane.

very cool flyovers; 2 small planes together circled couple times over Admiral; one white, one smaller red, side by side

If it were not for the light posts, my second story balcony at Duwamish Head condo would be the best spot. That will be me on the deck watching, I will wave to you.

We had good looks at the parade from down here at Fauntleroy as it turned and headed back in. The hydroboats (I think that’s what they were) were funny . . . all you can see is water spray! My wife asked my there were jetskis in the parade! Go Navy!

From Alki ,what a sight. What is the small ,loud craft that causes water to go in the air?Its like a hovercraft.

  • Outis August 3, 2011 (2:02 pm)

    It is a hovercraft.

  • Mr Matt August 3, 2011 (2:06 pm)

It’s exactly that: A hovercraft. :) More specifically it’s an LCAC – Landing Craft Air Cushioned

That Navy parade was very cool. I am so happy I live here now. Now, if I could get rid of the motorcycle noise, the loud car stereo noise, and the 2am party noise on the waterfront, it would be absolutely perfect.

Sorry, comment time is over.
