West Seattle Crime Watch: Thieves’ll take anything, even ‘Piggy’

Yes, thieves will take ANYTHING. Last Wednesday, Megan writes, her car was gone through in the Belvidere area, and: “The only things missing seem to be about 20 CDs in a green zippered case. So….if you’re suddenly gifted with some Johnny Mathis, Mel Torme, CSN, and other oddities, they’re likely mine.” Then today, from a different part of West Seattle, the tale of a trash bag taken from an open car, with three things inside; James hopes you will look for one of them, a beloved old toy that the thieves may well have tossed aside:

Here’s how James tells the story:

Yesterday afternoon, I left my convertible parked in the 5000 block of 35th Ave SW on Hudson with the top down. In the back seat of the car was a large garbage bag that had 3 items in it that belonged to my 13 year old daughter Olivia. In that bag were a sleeping bag, a pillow and MOST IMPORTANTLY a well-loved and worn hand-knit stuffed pig animal that her mother knit for her when she was very young.

Piggy as she was called, was “that” childhood toy that is beyond priceless for sentimental reasons. Susan worked extremely hard to knit Piggy but Olivia gave Piggy a life. She cherished and loved her. Piggy was the go-to toy and was there with Olivia for every sick day, every trip, and up until yesterday afternoon even sleepovers as she heads into her teen years. I’m sure most of us can relate to that special toy that transcends age and is comfort to us no matter where we are.

I have no doubt that whomever took the garbage bag full of these items may have really needed the sleeping bag and pillow. Both items, they can have and I would gladly buy them new ones even. My thought is that once they opened the bag, Piggy was quickly discarded. I will look for Piggy all around the neighborhood of 35th and Hudson once I get home tonight but I’m hoping you could publish this brief plea to our neighbors and community to please keep an eye out for Piggy. She will be sorely missed .

Description:
Hand Knit, well-loved and worn, stuffed animal pig. White and pink. Might be hard to really tell she is a pig anymore, years of love will do that to a stuffed pig. ;-)

Neighbors and friends, if you find it will you please give me a call. I will even give a small reward for it.

Thank you

James

Our car was also gone through last week in the Belvidere area. Luckily, nothing was taken… Just emptied the glove box and center consel… Left behind CD’s, iPod charger, $1 bill… And tons of kids crap, clothes, adult sweatshirts in the back seat. They must have been looking for iPods, gps, etc…
I hope our messy car was a disapointment to them… And I hope they enjoyed the dirty diaper I left in the back seat. ;)

It was a good reminder that I need to make sure I never leave anything of value in the car… And to remember to lock the doors…. Even though our car is in a pretty hidden driveway …

Sorry, comment time is over.
