West Seattle Water Taxi cancels Wednesday morning runs

Just in from King County’s Marine Division:

All West Seattle Water Taxi trips for Wednesday, April 27 are cancelled through at least the morning so that warranty repairs can be made to a small defective weld in the vessel hull. Tomorrow’s cancellation will allow the King County Marine Division to take advantage of available dry dock space.

While the Marine Division hopes repairs can be made in time to resume service for the Wednesday afternoon commute, passengers are advised to monitor e-mail/text service alerts, visit the Water Taxi website at www.kingcounty.gov/watertaxi, or call 206-684-1551.

Why don’t they contract with Argosy for these things? This is getting ridiculous.

Yeah, there was a small fire at a bowling alley. Will be posting it on our White Center site shortly, though that is NOT White Center … it’s just Roxbury unincorporated. – TR

Do the people in charge of the Water Taxi have a secret mandate to destroy the service?

The Water Taxi is a novelty not a reliable mode of commuter transportation.

George, you took the words right off my keyboard. When Argosy ran the WT there was never any disruption that I can recall, other than a bad storm once IIRC.

And LotH, if it’s not a commuter service why does it run at commuter hours and not all day?

The WS water taxi does run all day, april through october, months we are currently between. The vashon water taxi is commuter hours only.

The water taxi IS a reliable form of transportation. Believe me…I’m the first one to be peeved when they cancel runs that screw up my homeward bound commute (grrrr) but I make it to and from my job 95% of the time with absolutely no problem. Why do I have a feeling the complainers are probably people who don’t even really use it consistantly?

Because on this blog, some comment on the topic and some just have to comment on the other posters. You’re just first.

The State ran reliable passenger ferry service from Downtown to Vashon Island for many years before they turned the ferry over to the County. But they always had a back up boat to use if they had a break down. Now, if the County has a breakdown, Vashon is covered and West Seattle takes the hit – interesting, because I bet West Seattle contributes 3 times the property taxes to run the service as Vashon does.

Re: The vessels – We have a longer update on the Water Taxi in the works, including its future – from funding to the longstanding plans for new vessels (built from scratch, not more “used” ones as these indeed were) … TR
