Potential West Seattle military-jet flyover alert for Saturday night

(U.S. Navy photo)
Most years, the Seattle Mariners’ Salute to Armed Forces Night means a West Seattle flyover – so here’s advance warning, courtesy of SDOT’s weekend traffic alert: Saturday night, just before 6 pm, two Boeing EA-18G Growlers are scheduled for a Safeco Field flyover. They’re a variant of the Super Hornet (think Blue Angels), so it could get loud.

    It’s the sound of freedom.

As long as no one breaks the sound barrier, we should be able to handle it…

sound barrier? last year when some ? invaded air space when the PRESIDENT was here: i’ll welcome our air force in ARMS ready to protect US.
that’s all Mookie and a little noise to let us know our forces are up there to protect us, so wear some ear plugs!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, 2:30ish this afternoon, what was that commercial twin engine jet (or luxury liner) doing so low sweeping south to north over The Mount? That was just way too low for such a large jet.

I saw that too george. I’m pretty sure it was a private plane. My guess was he missed a first landing at Boeing and went around for another pass. It was kind of scary low.

I guess I don’t understand the idea behind these types of events. I don’t feel threatened such that I need reassurance from the air force, and it just seems expensive and wasteful. The same thing for Seafair and the air show(s) there. I’m not bothered by the noise, but that’s got to represent a lot of fuel. Couldn’t we host something like an Army/Navy game and cheer them that way?

Sorry, comment time is over.
