West Seattle’s Westwood Village reportedly getting a new owner

According to the Daily Journal of Commerce (if you subscribe, here’s the link), West Seattle’s Westwood Village shopping center is about to get a new owner. The DJC says Bentall Kennedy is buying Westwood Village from Wesbild for $78 million but isn’t planning major changes (the article mentions parking-lot upgrades, and painting). The DJC says Wesbild also just sold Burien Town Square, to a different buyer, for $14 million. The current WV website says Wesbild has owned the center for more than 20 years.

perhaps they could fix the entrance on 26th, which is so stupid. And another question, where the post office is, the street that enters, is that a private street or public?

Parking lot upgrades is what it needs…possibly the worst I’ve ever encountered.

I beg to differ on at least one aspect of the parking: a few years back the spots outside of Target were enlarged-much to my relief. Prior to that it was virtually impossible to park with enough room on either side to get in or out of one’s car. That being said, it certainly could use some rethinking of the traffic flow within the lot.

Is it too soon to request the never-built movie theaters???

I just can’t see a movie theater there because there are extremely limited dining options at Westwood. The model that is working well is theaters right next to restaurants. Look at Southcenter or Renton Landing. I’d love a first-run theater in W. Seattle, but I don’t see it happening in Westwood.

Yes the spots outside of Target were done but there are many other places like outside of Big 5. Just sent an email to the new owners asking them to make sure to fix the parking space issue.

Totally agree on the parking, and traffic flow generally. I’m constantly amazed to get out of that lot without a fender bender.

You have your facts wrong. Bentall does not own or operate Pacific Place.

My apologies. That’s the problem if writing a story based on someone else’s story, which we seldom do, but this was too big to wait till business hours. From the DJC’s story, which we attributed throughout this item (and have linked to, though it is only visible if you subscribe) – direct quote: “The firm traditionally has bought office properties but does own some retail, including Pacific Place in downtown Seattle.” You might want to contact them too, if you haven’t already, but in the meantime, I’ll excise this – cannot easily find on their site yet who DOES own them. – Tracy

Sorry – my mistake. Pacific Place is new to the portfolio. Bentall Kennedy also manages US Bank Centre/City Centre and Century Square downtown.

I agree about the movie theater! Or maybe a video arcade.

Sorry, comment time is over.
