Another West Seattle business opens: Jonny Bostons Sandwich Shop

The much-awaited Jonny Bostons Sandwich Shop is finally open on the north edge of The Junction (4151 California SW). In our iPhone photo at left, that’s owner Dan‘s son Jon – the Jonny in Jonny Bostons – at the counter with Bev. But before you go rushing over, Dan cautions that this is truly a SOFT OPEN – they don’t even have the fryer going yet, so no fries (probably till Monday) – just burgers, cheesesteaks, sausages, chips, and soda. (You can see the menu via the Jonny Bostons Facebook page.) They’ll be ramping up over the next few days, so if you do go, understand they’re trying to keep things low-key while they get acclimated. (We just happened to notice while driving through The Junction that the paper was off the windows and there appeared to be people inside, so we stopped in to see if it was indeed the long-awaited opening.) As reported in our previous stories here and here, their hours will be Mondays-Saturdays, 11 am-8 pm.

Right on time for holiday shopping tomorrow!

  • ZS December 3, 2010 (3:37 pm)

Cool, will try to stop by a grab cheesesteaks for the Civil War tomorrow!

  • Rick December 3, 2010 (4:01 pm)

I always thought the civil war was the Oregon rivalry.

Not to sound cheap or anything, but those are some pretty high prices for a take-out joint in today’s economy. Seriously, for $8.50 you can’t thrown in the cheese and the onions on a steak sandwich?? Even Tat’s (in Pioneer Square) charges less and throws in the cheese and the onions. And as for burgers, I’ll probably stick with Elliot Bay when I’m in the junction and Zippy’s when I want take out. My god, too much nickle and diming for a place that hasn’t even proven itself. Plus, what about this menu is unique to Boston??

Was really looking forward to a new sandwich shop, but from the looks of things I’m not too impressed.

Rick, the Civil War IS tomorrow. Some of us will be watching that instead of the Apple Cup. :D

Oooooohhhhh. Didn’t catch that. Either way they should be good games. Thanks

Stopped by tonight. My only regret was that I ordered the 8inch and not the 12 inch, cause it was that good. Can’t wait to go back!

  • Yardark December 3, 2010 (6:57 pm)

    Excellent news! Congratulations, guys.

  • LifetimeWestSideStirringThePot December 3, 2010 (8:36 pm)

HelperMonkey- Might be easier to watch that if you were in Oregon. Relieve some of the crowding in West Seattle. Just saying.

Civil War is OU vs OSU. National championship on the line! Go Ducks.

Sticking to topic. I Like the early reviews and will pick up cheesesteaks for the game.

ps. I’m a huge Boston Bruins fan. Another reason to support a beantown biz.

You have to go. I had my first cheesesteak in Beverly, MA and it has been my favorite food since. It has been nearly impossible to find the same quality since. BUT, here it is. I was one of the first customers and soooooo glad I happened to drive by and saw people in the window. Excellent.

So happy to have this takeaway option in the neighborhood. As much as I love Zippys for burgers to go it’s kind of a schlep while this place is a short walk.
    .
The menu link wanted me to sign into facebook. Hopefully they get a website soon.

    • WSB December 4, 2010 (9:00 am)

Sorry, to be clear the FB link wasn’t one they provided me – I found it while rooting around a couple nights ago looking for hints on when they’d open. I don’t know whether they’ll be getting a website soon … it seemed somewhat telltale that their business card didn’t include a URL, but we’ll see, there are the stirrings of a generic shell at jonnybostons.com …

For myself a former Philly resident, I am looking forward to trying their version of a cheese steak sandwich. I except no one around here really knows what a “real” cheese steak sandwich taste like. I always chuckle with those that try to pass one off as one.

I walk by this place all the time so I’m glad it’s now open. One complaint: Would it kill them to put a veggie burger option in there? My wife is vegetarian but now I know for sure that I’ll be getting something there on days/nights that she has other plans. The only thing she could eat on the menu is the “Can of Soda and Fries/Chips” options. I suppose they just have one big grill…

Sooo excited this place is finally open.
And just to add, GO BEAVS!!!! I hope they give UO a big pounding in my hometown of Corvallis. YEAH!!

Joseph…there are other east coast transplants here. I’m one. The sammies I’ve enjoyed the most are at Hey, Paison in Burien on 152nd SW. None will ever top my favorite little sandwich shop back in Reading, PA…independent when I was a kid…I’m 63, it’s still there, and independent as ever ! :) Yummy..

  • Joseph December 4, 2010 (3:06 pm)

I agree JanS, from the King of Prussia area myself. I will have to try the place in Burien. I have been to Shoe Fly Pie place on Cal Ave. I grew up with Shoe Fly pie and it was a wet mix, but their pie is ok.

  • AJL December 4, 2010 (5:25 pm)

DH and I landed here today for a late lunch – happy to go! It’s a little pricier than Hey Paison! in Burien, likely due to higher rent so we’ll cut them some slack for that. Other opinions are:
    1. good bread, long sandwiches should be cut in half, we had a hard time eating a 12″ with no slice. But that’s fairly minor.
    2. I took plain old cheesesteak for taste test. I liked it! Good meat, just enough cheese. DH thought it was not “greasy” enough but I thought it was rather good that way. Would have liked more “chop” action. Perfectly satiated but for…
    3. Where are the spicy peppers?! No spicy pepper option! This must be fixed! Stat!
    4. Ditch the burgers – they don’t need it. Keep it sandwiches and sausages only. Burgers seemed to interrupt the flow of the kitchen. Or were there “too many cooks in the kitchen?”
    5. When in kitchen, tie back hair.
    6. We will likely go back – but I want spicy peppers! Super nice people, seemed to really want people to be happy with their orders. Once opening kinks are worked out this place should do ok. There’s nothing else like it in the area.

are we talking BRISTOL COUNTY linguica? because that would be the only authentic linguica from the boston are., but then again, the menu on facebook does have Portuguese spelled wrong.

  • MMP December 5, 2010 (1:11 am)

Went there today and liked. Will go back for a burger soon. One request – a CheezeWiz option for the sandwiches!

  • Yardvark December 5, 2010 (10:24 am)

Please no CheezeWiz. Boston not Philly.

  • CheesesteakConi December 6, 2010 (9:34 pm)

    Hey, Paison > Jonny Bostons

By a land slide! Jonny Bostons tastes like SteakUm from the freezer section at the grocery store. Bread is a bit bland. Hey, Paison in Burien, is no doubt worth the drive!

  • Snee December 6, 2010 (10:45 pm)

I’ve been there twice already. Loved the cheesesteaks! West Seattle is long overdue with the cheesesteaks! I also enjoyed the bacon burger. But I was really impressed with the personal, good to know you feel that this small sandwich shop gives off. I’m tired of all the take your order and move out of my store places. If im going out with a cheesesteak heart attack I want the people around me to at least know my name!

  • V December 15, 2010 (2:29 pm)

I posted something about this place and WSB took it off. There was nothing crase about what I posted. Just that it is not worth going in. Over priced and not what they say.

Sorry, comment time is over.
