Update: Tuscan Tea Room and Romanza Floral to open Tuesday

(Dining-room photo courtesy of, and used with permission from, Tuscan Tea Room)
Proprietor Aimee Pellegrini sent word overnight that she has set the official opening date for her Tuscan Tea Room and Romanza Floral in The Junction (4521 California SW, next to the new Wing Dome):

We will be open on Tuesday!! Our Tea/Coffee bar is open at 8:00 am and the dining room/floral bar at 10:30. We are accepting reservations for dining or please stop in for a cuppa and treat!

The Tearoom is a unique multi-purpose business. There are many different ways to use it and we are excited to see how our patrons will enjoy it from your daily beverage, lunch, or a specialty tea party, to planning your wedding flowers or grabbing a quick gift.

Tuscan/Romanza is on Facebook here, and on the Web here. (Our first report on this in-the-works business was back in June.)

I am very excited about the tea shop. They have done a beautiful job on both the interior and exterior of the shop.Well done, I will be there on opening day!!!

  • Melissa November 6, 2010 (7:54 am)

Oh, gracious. That looks like the lobby of my grandmother’s apartment building 30 years ago.

  • Meghan November 6, 2010 (8:48 am)

No, Melissa, it actually looks like an authentic tea room in Europe. And like Aimee’s parents’ wonderful restaurant La Rustica, it will allow you to be transported to Europe, if even for an hour. (Aren’t there enough restaurants that all feel like Ikea?) Knowing the family’s passion for great authentic food, I have no doubt it’ll be great. What a great addition to W. Seattle!

  • J November 6, 2010 (10:26 am)

Oh, this is going to be wonderful!

  • J November 6, 2010 (10:27 am)

Do you have hours set, yet? (Beyond opening day, I mean.)

  • CB November 6, 2010 (10:47 am)

Wow… that’s some serious effort. Hope your new endeavor is successful.

  • J November 6, 2010 (11:45 am)

    Beautiful congrats!

  • sun*e November 6, 2010 (12:34 pm)

Wow… what a beautiful place. I just might have to start likin’ tea more than coffee. ;)

  • RJB November 6, 2010 (2:10 pm)

    Awesome….very pretty.

  • Mary November 6, 2010 (3:24 pm)

A menu would be nice–what’s their definition of “afternoon tea”? Am I missing a link on their website?

  • The HepCat November 6, 2010 (5:46 pm)

Wow, It looks like Liberace exploded in there….

Seriously, I wish them the best. If it has La Rustica family running it, it should be fantastic.

  • Huindekmi November 6, 2010 (5:50 pm)

This is going to be great for the Wingdome’s business. I walked by, looked on the window and immediately needed a beer and hot wings to bring my testosterone levels back up to normal.

  • SarahScoot November 6, 2010 (6:33 pm)

Meghan, the two (Melissa’s grandmother’s apartment lobby and a European tea room) are not mutually exclusive. Maybe it looks like both.
One thing it does not look like is a place where I’ll be spending a lot of time.

  • cj November 6, 2010 (7:26 pm)

It looks so pretty I’m almost afraid to walk in there with in my jeans and walking shoes.

    Any word on the menue?

  • JanS November 6, 2010 (11:41 pm)

their Facebook page says that the menu will be online shortly…

  • JanS November 6, 2010 (11:43 pm)

wow..SarahScoot…you’ll never even give it a try? Is it that you don’t feel comfortable in a place like this? Just don’t like tea?

  • Dan'a November 7, 2010 (12:20 am)

I’m very excited about this. I will be going as often as possible.
Don’t let the negative comments get you down, there are plenty of people in West Seattle who long for more places that offer things other than mac and cheese or hot wings. There is room enough in West Seattle for all tastes.

  • MrJT November 7, 2010 (6:40 am)

I really hope they have a large vegetarian selection !

  • SarahScoot November 7, 2010 (7:53 am)

JanS, I didn’t say I’ll *never* try it. I love tea, actually – don’t drink coffee at all, and have a large selection of teas at home. However, aesthetics of restaurants are important to me, and the aesthetics of this place are just not my style. That, combined with the fact that I can get good tea and food elsewhere in WS, means I don’t plan to make this place a regular stop. No offense; just not my cup of tea.

  • Melissa November 7, 2010 (2:54 pm)

Ditto, SarahScoot. Big on tea. Not big on Grandma’s lobby. Just in the Junction, Coffee to a Tea has lovely tea, as does Bakery Nouveau and Cupcake Royal. And, best of all atmosphere-wise, is C & P. That’s my style. And they have wonderful tea.

We’ll get a better look inside during a preview event tomorrow – this is just one angle that I asked Aimee if we could borrow from her FB page. No one would ever put the word elegant in the same zip code as me and yet the concept of something so very different from our cluttered, inelegant bungalow will be interesting to experience. To each their own, and I am hopeful that even those who are not interested in the concept will nonetheless wish a new business well. We started in business three years ago this week and are glad to have made it this far – TR

There should be room for ONE place in all of this customarily-informal city for an occasional touch of elegance.
Hopefully it will find the citywide clientele it will need to survive, and that in turn will bring destination traffic to our neighborhood.
    The very best of luck!

  • ttt November 7, 2010 (7:29 pm)

This looks like something fun and different! I hope they have a lunch menu!

    • WSB November 7, 2010 (7:32 pm)

The website says they will have lunch. They posted on FB that menus should be up within a couple days (that would mean, by opening day) …

  • bk November 7, 2010 (10:54 pm)

I’m really excited for this place to open. I generally love the mostly-casual vibe in Seattle, but I’d like to mix it up once in awhile.

  • mom of 3 boys November 8, 2010 (1:44 pm)

Happy to have a “high-tea” type place in WS. Usually have to travel to the University area to get my “estrogen-fix” –

  • Glenda November 8, 2010 (5:48 pm)

Okay folks, the photo is not doing it justice actually. I walked by there the other night and peeked in the window and it looks totally charming and “old world” not “old folks home”. Like you are in Austria or something. I think it’s a neat idea!

  • donna November 8, 2010 (8:34 pm)

think if the tables had been set, glassware sparkling, flowers, candles, etc. for this photograph the responses would be positive across the board. A flat empty table is not inviting, no matter which angle the photograph is taken from.

So, best to you …. I hope you have great succes !!

  • Sizzler! November 8, 2010 (9:51 pm)

I can understand the apprehension of entering this place for most non-metro Seattle folks. Really, how many nice places in WS exist, where you CANNOT where Merrils or whatever non-shoe/shoe you sport, patagonas, come-on, wearing hiking gear out and about. West Seattle is Pubs and Watering Holes tailoring to its thrifty working class denizens, don’t take my word for it – just go to another neighborhood. I fear this business would thrive else-where. I hope I am wrong as starting a business is costly.

  • Ilia November 8, 2010 (10:21 pm)

Aimee, thank you so much for an enchanting evening. Your place is beautiful and your daughter in her satin dress was so charming. I can’t wait to bring my daughter in for the tea for tots, what an exciting thing for a little girl to look forward too. The teas were out of this world as well as the food, I wish you all the best in your future!

  • Beth November 9, 2010 (9:51 am)

Geez people!!! Stop snarking and do one of two things: 1) don’t try it out and don’t be negative 2) try it out and provide you “experienced” input. Foo foo “lobby” or not, you’re passing judgement without facts. So typical-Seattle. And before you get your boxers in a self rightous knot, I am a fifth generation Seattlite, whose ancestors helped build this city.

  • TeaSupporter November 15, 2010 (3:23 pm)

Please dont waste your breath trying to educate or enlighten some of the posters on here, who consider a fine dining experience a night @ Bamboo Bar and Grill. They prefer their tea from Snapple or Arizona. This is a breath of fresh air. West Seattle is ridden with Bars, Pubs, & Watering Holes full of swamp donkeys! Make WS classy, we need more elegant places like this.

I was pleased to find this beautiful Tea Room and to relax with a properly prepared pot of tea. The food was excellent! I was happy to see not only afternoon tea menus, but other offerings also. My husband who never seems to get enough food at tearooms will be satisfied after coming here. I will be coming to West Seattle more often because of this Tea Room and can hardly wait for my next visit!

  • Natalie November 28, 2010 (8:58 pm)

Lovely. Met a girlfriend departing to start a new life tomorrow to say goodbye. TTR offerred the perfect intimate atmosphere for such a conversation. Plus the tea and crepes were sensational. Thanks!

Sorry, comment time is over.
