Happening now: Dine Out to Remember Our Fallen

Look for the red, white and blue balloons all over West Seattle tonight – like the ones outside Feedback Lounge (WSB sponsor) in our photo – they signify participation in the Dine Out to Remember Our Fallen fundraiser that’s under way right now. Here’s what it’s all about:

In the waiting area for Puerto Vallarta in The Junction, you’ll see that rendering of the police memorial planned for Lakewood, where four officers were gunned down almost a year ago. Tonight’s fundraiser is meant to raise money to bring it closer to reality. Helping lead local efforts, retired Seattle Police Detective Frank Kampsen, director of the Behind the Badge Foundation, and Southwest Precinct Officer Raleigh Evans:

They explained why West Seattle participation is so high:

Meantime, check out this list of participants – get out sometime tonight, and help make the memorial happen. The night’s biggest event will be emceed by Officer Evans: A rock ‘n’ roll jam at Bamboo Bar and Grill on Alki starting at 8 pm. Details here; more later!

Enjoyed dinner out with a couple of Seattle’s finest at Elliott Bay Brewery who donated some proceeds and kegs of beer to other resturants.

Great to see such a huge response from West Seattle business owners. Shows the rest of the city and state the kind of people we are around here! Thank you to all the restaurants and bars that participated!

We went out last night to support. Drove by Feedback and it was packed. Ditto for Elliott Bay. We ended up at Puerto Vallarta, which was ALSO packed. Nice to see such support for our officers. Many thanks to all the restaurants who participated.

Just published a separate story with photos and video (as overwhelmed as our camera was, with serious loud rock!) from the Bamboo jam:

I was shocked that our own Timothy Brenton was not included. He was a graduate of our own West Seattle high school and he so deserves recongnition as does his family.

Hi there. The official memorial to Officer Brenton was formally dedicated with a ceremony last weekend in Leschi. We covered it here:

      .
West Seattle officers among others came together for this particular fundraiser because money is still needed to complete the funding for the memorial yet to be built for the Lakewood officers murdered not long after Officer Brenton was killed.
