SATURDAY MORNING: Not West Seattle, but … Seattle Firefighters to Honor New York Firefighters on September 11 at 9:30 a.m. Firefighters from around the area climbing the stairs in Two Union Square, each wearing a photo of a fallen New York Firefighter, Seattle Firefighter or other public safety professional lost in the line of duty. Location: Two Union Square, 621 Union Street
Firefighters from around the region will take part in Seattle’s Second Annual 343 Staiclimb on Saturday, September 11. As they climb, each firefighter will carry a photo of one of the 343 firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty in the attack on the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001. Additionally, firefighters will carry the names and photos of each of the 39 Seattle Firefighters whose lives have been lost in the line of duty since 1891. Seattle Police Officers and other area public safety professionals have been invited to honor their fallen in the same way. Firefighters will climb to the 55th floor of the tower twice, representing the 110 stories of the Twin Towers. The 343 Stairclimb is being organized by Seattle Firefighter Melissa Woolsey and is sponsored by Seattle’s Bravest Charity and the Seattle Fire Department. These classes prepare girls and women for a potential life-threatening event. Included in the class are discussions and exercises for awareness and prevention, assessment of environment, man made weapons, demonstrations, and hands on practice of effective techniques with the assistance of Tae Kwon Do black belts.
