Three West Seattle Crime Watch reports from the WSB inbox in the past few days – a car theft, a car break-in, and a condo building repeatedly burglarized – read on:
First, from Mariko:
Just wanted to let you know that my Honda Civic was stolen from in front of my house (7500 block of California ave sw) sometime during the evening on Thursday. Its a red 2 door Honda Civic. The police have said that these cars that are being stolen are usually just taken for joy rides and then dumped in a neighborhood so please keep your eyes open!
Just in from Rich (added four minutes after we originally published this item with two reports)
My 1992 Honda Accord was broken into last night most likely sometime between 11pm and 5am. Parked on the street (4200 block of SW Hinds St, between California and 42nd Ave SW). Ransacked, lots of damage to the key mechanism in the steering column. Car was locked with windows up, entry was through passenger window, between window and door frame then lifted the electric lock lever. Only obvious missing items are about $15 in quarters, along with the little drawer that held them, a new tooth brush in packaging (but not the floss that came with it from a recent trip to the dentist, hmmmm) and a couple of partial tins of mints. SPD has been notified.
From Jason:
I wanted to let you know about the very alarming rate of break-in’s we have had in the 2200 block of Alki Ave SW. There have been 5 this year already. The most recent one was 9/21/2010. Where they broke into our garage and stole 2 Jeep bikes. This is the first time that they did not break into any cars also though. It was between the hours of 2:30 am and 6:30 am. We are not sure how they got in this time either. Since we put a security lock on the door they were breaking. Has anyone else had a high number of break in’s in this area? Is it something our condos are doing wrong?
By the way, the West Seattle Blockwatch Captains Network has its first meeting in a few months Tuesday night – more info on its website.
