Admiral Safeway demolition update; plus, webcam online

Another update on the Admiral Safeway redevelopment project, as the first week of demolition continues (here’s our report from Monday) – Sara Corn at Safeway regional HQ says demolition of the main building is beginning today, and the promised webcam is now up too. See it here; you can also find it from Safeway’s project website. (Nothing dramatic to see at the moment, but it’s intended to chronicle construction as it continues over the months ahead, with the new store expected to open next summer.) 11:49 PM NOTE: Our photo is from this afternoon; by nightfall, WSB’er Diane reports, the demolition appeared to be at least halfway done – we’ll check again tomorrow.

Can they keep the camera up after construction is over so we can known when Safeway is busy? :-)

compared to the last couple of days, it’s fairly quiet over there right now. Yesterday was really noisy as they were tearing out the hedge along part of 42nd SW. I’m across the street, so hear it all day long :) They were nice enough yesterday to quit at 4pm!

they worked until a little after 6pm this evening. Looks like they made real headway into the store from the east side.

That was a great Safeway. Liked to shop there when I lived in WS. Sorry to see it go. Now it looks like they’ll finally have room for a Wal-Mart! LOL

@Mark – No worries… there will be a much nicer Safeway replacing it and I can’t wait! :)

Hey Jan; I wanted to call you when I was over there watching the demolition last night, but don’t have your # even thought about knocking on your door, couldn’t remember unit #; can I get your email/contact info? Mine is divincent@aol.com

I was very surprised to be the only person out there watching demolition at 6ish last night; I took bunch of photos and sent to Tracy; thought she might post at least one of the pics I took; they’re amateur but about as good as what I’ve seen on here so far, and shows the whole site with what had been torn out; I know they are super busy, so I called Patrick; I would post one of my photos on here, but don’t know how

you couldn’t tell anything was happening by driving up California; the walls still all intact; they gutted inside from 42nd, and was amazing to see most of inside gone in 1 day
