Transportation talk tops 34th District Democrats’ agenda tonight

Tonight’s marquee event in West Seattle – the 34th District Democrats‘ monthly gathering (7 pm, The Hall at Fauntleroy). And a timely topic, too – transportation, from the Alaskan Way Viaduct to the city’s future vision (which could include more taxes to pay for improvements). Here’s the full agenda, which includes West Seattle-residing Councilmember Tom Rasmussen, chair of the council’s Transportation Committee. (You’re also bound to hear an update on the 34th DDs’ biggest annual event, the Garden Party dinner/auction, coming up this Friday.)

Transportation is great, but how about we address some of the taxes that are killing our communities? Rising property taxes, recent candy/water tax, proposed sales tax, proposed income tax, along with the expiration of the tax cuts we’ve been enjoying over the past 8 years will crush whatever local economy we have left. Come on 34th Dems, stop marching in lock-step and speak out against your candidates and leaders that are destroying our communities.

Tom is going to be there. He is the leading advocate for the New Transportation Taxing District for Seattle. read about it in the Times:

VOTJ, they wont. I have attended a few of their meetings and they all sounded like a mutual admiration club. Most of them believe that we aren’t taxed enough. Although I might go tonight just to see if any of the Progs (they are not Dems) have the nads to confront Tom about the additional taxes he supports.

Sorry, comment time is over.
