West Seattle traffic alert: Small power outage in The Junction

Thanks to Paige for the tip (via Facebook) that some power is out in The Junction. We’re up there looking around and so far all we’re seeing is the traffic lights at California/Oregon and 42nd/Oregon. There’s a crew on scene so we’ll check with them. 9:20 PM UPDATE: We’re told a transformer on a pole in the alley behind Shoofly Pie is to blame for the outage. It’s just affecting that block – east side of California north of Oregon, that area. Crews are working on it (as our photo shows).

I came through both intersections a little after eight. Drivers on 42nd and Oregon were doing a pretty good job of treating it as a four-way stop. Different story on California and Oregon – saw one near-accident, another close call and a lot of confusion. I called 911 hoping that a cruiser would be dispatached and the response was “it looks like we know about that and City Light has been notified”.

Sure hope City Light knows how to direct traffic.

Patrick saw an officer there – that’s who gave him some of the info – but reportedly observing traffic, not directing it – should be fixed soon – TR

That’s how Paige, who told us about it, described it. A transformer blowing up would tend to sound like that.

Sorry, comment time is over.
