Update: Stolen car crashes on Junction curb, driver flees

What looks like vandalism on the south side of the new Junction flower shop Fleurt is actually from an early-morning car crash. First we heard from Jack, who says that around 6 am, he saw a car up on the curb at California/Oregon (map) with “front body damage” and five police cars at the scene; then Ellen e-mailed wondering if the smashed shelves and planters she saw outside Fleurt were the work of vandals. Christopher Boffoli just checked it out for WSB – his photo is above; he says there’s no major damage to the structure itself. Fleurt wasn’t open yet when he went by, but an SPD card in the door says the crash happened about 5:50 am. We’re checking with police on the driver’s status; 911 logs don’t show a medic response, and Jack said it looked as if a search was under way when he went by. 1:44 PM UPDATE: Southwest Precinct Lt. Norm James confirms that the car was stolen, no driver in sight when police arrived; someone saw a person run from the scene but hadn’t actually seen that person driving the car. He adds, “The vehicle was returned to the owner, who did not know that the vehicle had been stolen.”

This isn’t a cool thing at all, what a pain for Fleurt… but I must say that the angle that CB took this photo, it looks like the shelving is flying or has some strange Salvador Dali thing going on. Just glad no one was injured.

Amanda- that’s what I thought too, the shelves on the left side of the photo look like a trompe l’oeil* painted on the brick wall.

    * an art technique involving extremely realistic imagery in order to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects appear in three dimensions, instead of actually being a two-dimensional painting (from wikipedia)

Glad it wasn’tr vandals we pass by here evey morning on the way to school and my daughter always comments “I can’t believe no one has stolen her stuff yet”!! Although one morning we did see the work of someone who had written all over her blackboards. I hope this is the least that happens to her lovely shop.

Any indication as to the Make/Model that was involved?

We live above the new QFC and loud, continuous pop-like sounds shot me right out bed. I didn’t check the time but thought it was odd we didn’t hear sirens soon after. We cannot see the flower shop from our vantage point however. Initially I had thought they were gunshots. It’s an unfortunate situation.

I covered that on Twitter last night. No proof of shots, and no one who was shot, were reported, so it wasn’t a separate story on the site, but police did respond twice last night to reports of shots being heard, both times reported in the 4500 block of 42nd SW – Tracy

Well it happened once again (third time) in West Seattle. A stolen car destroys someone’s property, driver (delinquent) flees harmless.
Any further investigations (like prints) by SPD?
I know I lost my car that way.

We have had a car destroyed in West Seattle as well. Someone driving a large moving style van that had been stolen. We loved that Honda!! Some other punk stole our Jeep and ruined that one too. And don’t forget about my stolen vintage 1950’s bike that was stolen from in front of our house… I am still searching for it. Maybe I will find a new vintage bike this summer at a garage sale. Fingers crossed!
Good lord. These little punks need to get a job, a life and grow up. I hope that their parents are ashamed of their children when they are caught…

This is a wonderful little shop. Just what you don’t need when you’re a new business owner! I hope all the people who say they want little cute independent shops in WS will put their money where their mouths are and go there when they need flowers or gifts!

Sorry, comment time is over.
