Followup: Another Delridge “problem property” torn down

Just a few days after the one-year anniversary of the Delridge “problem properties” tour, featuring two city councilmembers, two city department heads, it’s demolition day for another of the rundown houses mapped by then-North Delridge Neighborhood Council chair Mike Dady. He had shared the news four weeks ago that the demolition permit had been granted for 4801 23rd SW (map) – a house he had said during the tour was boarded up only because he’d done it himself. Another of the properties on the April 2009 tour, 4117 Delridge, was demolished less than two months later. Two measures addressing some of the problems highlighted in the tour have become law – the chronic-nuisance-properties ordinance and the “derelict housing” ordinance, both finalized last December.

While I agree with getting rid of nuisance properties, I sincerely hope these demolished houses are replaced with other single family homes. I think we have too many townhouses/condos already. I hope we do what’s right for the neighborhood instead of what’s in the best interest of some developers bank account.

D.A. – The Zoning for this particular parcel is Single Family. Nothing other than a Single Family house would be allowed to be built on this site.

Most of the parcels of land that are along Delridge Way proper, are zoned for uses such as Multi-Family or Neighborhood Commercial. While the parcels off of Delridge Way are for the most part Zoned Single Family.

If you wish to learn more about the Zoning of specific areas here is a place to start: http://www.cityofseattle.net/dpd/Research/Zoning_Maps/default.asp

I am so happy for our neighborhood that this property has been torn down. It was one of the biggest hazards on our block. Mike thank you for keeping an eye out for our neighborhood. It does make a difference.

Sorry, comment time is over.
