West Seattle restaurant news: Eness now officially open

When we checked in with the proprietors of Eness Restaurant – which moved into the ex-Beato/Ovio/O2 space at 3247 California – they had hoped to open this week, and indeed, they achieved their goal. We got a tip they’d opened quietly on Thursday night; no signs on the door or phone-answering on Friday, but co-owner Khadidja Romari Belambri confirmed by e-mail early today that they’re indeed open for business. Their website’s not up just yet – soon, Khadidja says – but they’re open Tuesdays through Sundays, 5:30-10:30 pm, and hoping to add Saturday/Sunday brunch in about a month. (For more on Eness, here’s our original January report.)

nobody’s tried it yet?? wow. Thought for sure there’d be a dozen ‘no vegetarian/no kids menu’ posts by now :)

or prices to high for portion size…from people that have no idea what it costs to run a restaurant with quality ingredients.

We stopped by Friday evening for after dinner glass of wine and dessert. Dessert was ok, wine was not impressive. Thought it was odd that owners were nowhere to be seen; just two wait staff.

Tried them last night. They really should not have opened yet. They were not ready. Elec. cords all around, staff inattentive, confused. Staff couldn’t open the water bottle, forgot to bring bread, the glass eggplant dish practically slid off the plate into our lap as it was served. My plate slid all over the table as I tried to cut my veal, with slick table and no tablecloth or placemat. The food was ok, small portions for the price. I would not return even if/when they are really ready to open.

Wow. I was there last night and was thoroughly pleased. It was very quiet so I had a great opportunity to chat with the staff, and the owner, Khadidja, came out to introduce herself and told me how to contact her if I had feedback. The salad with goat cheese, apple, and crouton was delicious and easily shared with my companion. The onion soup was lighter than most I’ve had – not overly cheesy or too salty – really enjoyable. The wines-by-the-glass selection is very limited but I did get to taste three (cotes du rhone, merlot, viognier) of the (I think) five options and liked them all. I will be back. Next time I’ll try a main course. I’ll also post this in the Forum.

does anyone have a phone number for Eness?

    • WSB March 29, 2010 (2:59 pm)

k, I got one from good old-fashioned “directory assistance” (411) when trying to reach them after first hearing they had quietly opened. Didn’t save the number, unfortunately, and can’t say for sure that it was right, as nobody answered, not even voice mail. But you can certainly try d/a.

Someone should tell them they should probably plant annuals in the planters out front and not perennials. And if they are dead set on perennials than maybe find ones that bloom in the summer and not in late winter/early spring.

    I give it three months

Sorry, comment time is over.
