Update: Prep work starts tomorrow for Don Armeni paving

As first reported here Friday night, Seattle Parks plans to repave Don Armeni Boat Ramp for the first time in a quarter-century, and that means a temporary closure is ahead. Just got a Parks news release with an update – prep work is now scheduled to start tomorrow, though that will not require lot shutdown – read on for the latest:

Seattle Parks and Recreation is repaving the Don Armeni Boat Ramp parking lot at 1222 Harbor Ave. SW. Preparation for construction will begin March 2, 2010 and the work will be completed by early April 2010.

The parking lot/boat ramp will remain open during the preparation work and will be entirely closed for paving work. Located on Harbor Avenue and Maryland Street south of Duwamish Head, Don Armeni is the most popular of Seattle’s saltwater boat ramps.

Paving projects are weather dependent. Parks is working closely with Statewide Parking Lot Service, the contractor, to minimize the number of days that the lot will need to be closed during the month of March.

Parks is working with Statewide to mitigate construction impacts and to keep the launch open as much as possible during this project. An alternate city-run salt-water boat ramp available during the closure is Eddie Vine Boat Ramp, 8001 Seaview Ave. NW (Golden Gardens).

This project is funded through the Capital Improvement Program.

I’m glad this area will be improved, and just hope that they will be mindful of environmental impacts along the water.

Sorry, comment time is over.
