Swinery shutdown: Cooking classes announced, to fund remodel

WSB Forum members started talking again on Monday about The Swinery‘s temporary shutdown (starting its third week); we noted that the much-discussed meat (etc.) shop had been offering updates on its own site in the past week Then something new popped up: They’re offering cooking classes “to finance the remainder of our remodel,” and late last night, the first one was announced: “Pig Breakdown” – how to cut up a pig – March 12. Full details here. They’re also offering in-home “dinner party” group classes. As for the remodeling status, as of this Sunday post on their site, the plans were still “in review”; the DPD site says “application accepted” for their electrical work.

I was just wondering about them while stopped at the light yesterday. I was thinking its taking quite a long time to do what ever they were doing. Strange that they would close before the funds were in place.

From what they’ve said they weren’t planning on closing to remodel at this time but were pretty much forced into it when the building with the kitchen they were renting was foreclosed. Without a kitchen to prep the food in there was no point to keeping the storefront open.

Too bad they are doing this “remodel” when they just opened not that long ago. . . hmmmm . . . then the coupons in the circular. . . what good is that advertisment expense when the consumer can not use them. . . hmmmm . . .

Thanks DMcG. We are obviously missing a few details here. I don’t think you could run enough “Pig Breakdown” classes to pay for a new dishwasher, let alone a new kitchen. But, it sounds interesting!!

Wow. Based on what the cost of the cooking classes are…at $200-$350/head it better be quite the dinner!

Given there are many people (including me) who are still owed money from abruptly cancelled classes at Culinary Communion, I don’t know who (or what fool) would jump at the chance to pay the *total* cost of one of these dinner classes up front as their site state, let alone the price. I’m just sayin’

Hey WSB, If you really want to be a “news” site, why don’t you look into the past of this particular business owner, starting with Culinary Communion. This guy seems to have problems with getting the proper permits. I would love to see a reporter finding out what is up with how this guy can go “bankrupt” then move into West Seattle and open a new business only to be shut down so quickly? Hmmmmmm…..

Have you read the past stories here? Don’t know if they’d answer all your questions.

Sorry, comment time is over.
