West Seattle Crime Watch: Big police response at Roxhill Park

We checked this out when it happened a few hours ago (thanks to Kevin for the call about the big police response) but it was over so fast we didn’t publish anything at the time; however, we’ve received some questions since, so here’s what we know: The big police response at Roxhill Park after 3 this afternoon involved a suspected stolen car, according to the officer we talked with at the scene. They were questioning two suspects; we don’t have updated information on whether the two were arrested. Scary moments for people who were at the park at the time, according to one witness, who says, “About 3:10 today my niece and I were on the swings at Roxhill Park when cops come in and yell to clear the park, they’ve got two suspects on the ground and guns drawn. … there was a green Eagle Talon parked next to my car that they were going thru pretty thoroughly.”

They were definitely arrested.I was there with my 2 year old son when law enforcement officers showed up.They had guns drawn including an AR-15,so I assumed these guys had really screwed up to get that kind of firepower trained on them…..more police showed up…scary at first with all the kids asking me what was happening.I told them the police had caught some bad men but that playtime was over,we should all go home.West Seattle has been a little nutty lately……

Thanks for the eyewitness report. Sorry to hear how scary it was; I took my guy (now 14) to Roxhill all the time in younger years – it’s a nice mile-long walk from our house – and I can only imagine what something like that would have been like. Meantime, “guns drawn” is standard for a felony stop (which is how they were describing this on the scanner, which I listened to as my co-publisher headed over to check on it) – car theft is a felony….TR

Maybe this was just a bunch of kids who had littered in the park, or were too old to be on the swings. Did the cops really need to pistol-whip them to get them to comply? To me, it sounds like the cops were bored and maybe were on a sugar high from donut overload. Am I the only one who thinks this might be the case?

    Mustafa, …. whatever.

They were not pistol-whipped,Mustafa.That’s what some bored thugs did to a young girl at Jack-In-the Box in WS last week…or the armed assailants that punched out the 7-11 clerk the same week.I guess you will feel safer in their company.

Sorry, comment time is over.
