From Tim McMonigle on the West Seattle Soccer Club board, here’s news that spring registration is open – and there’s something new this time around:
As soccer fans around the world eagerly await the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa , the West Seattle Soccer Club (WSSC) is excited to announce registration for our 2010 Spring Soccer Season.
Founded in 1968, the West Seattle Soccer Club is committed to creating the best possible youth sports experience for our players and their families. To build on the excitement of the 2010 World Cup – the greatest sporting event on the planet – and to help educate our young players about the rich diversity of peoples and nations that are brought together by a common love for the world’s greatest game, the WSSC is proud to feature our first ever WORLD CUP SPRING SOCCER SEASON. Participating players will be placed on teams with colorful jerseys representing many of the 32 teams that will be competing in this summer’s 2010 World Cup.
Read on for the rest of the announcement – plus an update on two teams in competition right now:
The 6-week Spring Season is designed to provide an opportunity for beginning players to experience the fun and excitement of the great game of soccer, and for established players to maintain their touch and fitness while enjoying friendly competition with their peers.
The age groups that can participate are U6-U12 (ages 5-11). All games will be played on Sunday afternoons in West Seattle during April and May. To assure that every player gets a lot of “touches”, all games will be small-sided. (U6 and U7 players will compete 3v3, U8 players will compete 4v4, U9 players will compete 5v5, and U10-U12 players will compete 6v6). There are NO practice sessions* to attend, and NO standings maintained during the Spring Season. (*Some coaches may choose to hold practices, but WSSC does not reserve practices fields during the spring program.). The cost – which includes a team jersey for the player to keep – is just $45.00 for the season. Please go to www.westseattlesoccer.org and click on Registration on the left side.
Tim also tells us two WSSC teams are in the quarterfinals of the state Commissioner’s Cup: “They are the BU12 WS Jets and BU15 WS Deportivo Moctezuma. That means both of these teams are among the eight best teams in the state. Both teams play again this weekend.”
