West Seattle Crime Watch: Be on the lookout – car, & thieves

We’ve had stretches of several days without Crime Watch reports – you can see this by checking the list on the Crime Watch page – but today we’ve had a couple reports since the ones we published this morning, so here’s a second update: A car theft, and produce theft, both with descriptions shared so that you can help be on the lookout. Read on for both:

First, from Laura (she didn’t mention her neighborhood but we have a followup question out and will add that when answered – update – 41st/Brandon):

Our 2007 Acura TL was stolen from our driveway last night, we think around 7:30 p.m. We have filed a police report and notified insurance. Just another item to add to the frighteningly increasing amount of crime that seems to be taking place in these parts.

It’s gold in color, license plate 321XAA, if any readers see it, could they please call 911 to report it. Thank you.

To Laura’s point: Property crime is what has been higher than usual – and that’s why we spotlight it here in detail so that people can be extra watchful. Violent crime has not risen — just a little context. We report those cases too, of course, but they are infrequent. As we mentioned earlier today, the West Seattle Crime Prevention Council meeting is a good place to hear about trends and ask questions – 7 pm Tuesday at the Southwest Precinct. Meantime, just in from Jake:

My neighbor caught some people stealing grapes from her backyard today (Delridge St, near Hudson) [map]. They were recognized as the same people who have been caught taking food from the Delridge P-Patch in the past. It was two men and a woman in a light blue pickup truck. Please get the word out! Thanks.

Keep building up with those the cheaply made, box-like condos – of course there’s going to be more crime. Say hello to the beginning of the deterioration of W Seattle, and the beginning of a low income, hi rise, hi crime area. It’s just a matter of times folks. But don’t build another jail. Build more shelters and facilities for the homeless so they are easily enticed when other States and WA cities give them a one-way ticket here. And say thanks to our soon-to-be former mayor and people in the council who approved higher building, more density, and less parking available. Can we say – High Point social experiment!?

The bureaucrats got their tax income and parking violation dollars spent already – giving it away to the people who don’t contribute little to local economy. That sucking sound you hear is the social services drain on your hard-earned money.

    Ahhhh, socialist seattle.

My2Cents – Good rant I could not agree with you more. I have a feeling though that most people around WS are gonna dice you up for speaking common sense.

West Seattle, love it or leave it. Come on dude, don’t the sharrows kinda grow on ya?

The most clear, concise, and accurate post I’ve read on the Blog yet.

only poor people are criminals, that’s why the banking system is so honest…..

Most of the criminals you are talking about don’t even live in West Seattle, so your points, My2Cents, are well…pointless.

You think the people spending $350,000+ on condos are the ones committing crimes?

  • howie October 18, 2009 (10:23 am)

Yes, as a right-winger I am agreeing as well. I am not being ironic: we should be proud to represent the fading moment of the great world-wide experiment to form governments that are ltd. in scope and allow free and self-reliant folks to build their own local polities. Socialism is an idea that is older, representing peasant-based civilizations, where people expect royal- or tyrannic-based govt. to give them basic life infrastructure. We right-wingers are the dying breed!! Long live individual responsibility. It was a good 200 years.

Perfectly put “my2cents” I agree with you 100%, we’ve finally got Mr. Nickle and Dime out of office now we are left with his Urban Village idiots to deal with!!!

Yes, down with all forms of Socialism! We should all write monthly checks to the fire department to cover the cost of our protection! Then, when your house is on fire, the fire fighters can check your account to make sure you’re paid in full before they even suit up to go put out the blaze. Good idea! Individual responsibility, if you’re not paid up put out your own damn fire!

What do condo buyers (who typically have jobs, good credit, and money in the bank), have to do with the latest rash of crime in our neighborhood? Neighborhood density creates a healthy walking neighborhood, not crime.

    “Frighteningly increasing”??
    .
    Really??
    .
The actual statistics don’t say so at all, but maybe anecdotes reported to the WSB will cause the jumpier folks to move to a crime-free neighborhood like Balla…um, Queen A…er, somewhere, and I can finally afford that Junction condo I crave.
    .
And people BS’ing about “socialism” as some kind of reason for all ills: if you had half an idea what the term even means, other than your talk-radio gurus throwing it around like it’s a conjunction, you might come up with some kind of intelligent argument.

I have yet to find a single right wing republican that can define Socialism. There are many varieties of socialism. Some socialists tolerate capitalism, as long as the government maintains the dominant influence over the economy; others insist on an abolition of private enterprise. All communists are socialists, but not all socialists are communists.
France is Socialist, so is Canada, most of the EU.

Isn’t it funny that all the Conservatives have no problem buying cheap Chinese goods made in a socialist country like China. If you don’t believe in socialism, don’t accept Medicare or social security, and if your house gets destroyed by fire, don’t call the fire department because fireman are socialized protectors of the populace.

Yeah I’m still wondering about all those condo owners who go out and steal stuff. Statistics show that people who pay mortgages are more likely to steal…yeah…

i love how everyone takes sides, I’m right wing, I’m left wing…WOOHOO…

Don’t you realize it’s all a ploy of the people in power to keep us fighting against each other so they can have more power? Keep your doors shut, move to the million dollar suburbs so the poor people won’t step on your freshly manicured grass!

You people talk like 3rd graders…’well i believe socialism, fascism and idiotism are just tepid forms of government we need a wonderful capitalist blah F*CKING BLAHBITTY BLAH…’

Here’s an idea; get your gun Johnnie, camp out in your basement wait for the war to be over(it won’t end unless radical change is brought), stock pile your canned goods, fear the poor, fear the depraved, fear unified consciousness, fear your neighbor he MIGHT be a terrorist (ooooo!) or walk around with a sense of entitlement because a piece of paper written 250 years ago (by men who grew and consumed hemp) says you have the right to speak out, carry a gun and debate the validity of a bi-partisan government…waste your time…

    Poor people aren’t necessarily killers – G.W.B.

In my 5 years living near the Mount, my home has been burglarized, my parked car and garage smashed into by a drunk driver, my garage openly urinated upon, and my walls vandalized by graffiti. Oh, and last month, I saw a guy taking naked pictures of himself on the sidewalk in the middle of the night. Needless to say, “leave it” is sounding more attractive every day.

Anytime public comments are allowed, regardless the subject, it turns into a name calling match between self appointed liberals and conservatives, then they wonder why there is so much hate and crime in their communities. You breed hate and it will come back to piss on your garage door.

What a bunch of crap…I live in a condo, it cost us 400K, my husband is an accountant and I am a RN. We shop local and we support W. Seattle and it sounds like a few of you are not welcoming us because we don’t take up a half acre of “lawn.” Can’t we all just get along?

Sorry, comment time is over.
