Followup: What West Seattleite Marty Riemer is up to now

Almost two weeks after West Seattleite Marty Riemer and his broadcasting partner Jodi Brothers got the boot from The Mountain, he is still interacting with fans via his Facebook page – where he’s also announced that they will host a “Marty Riemer Show Severance Blowout” party on the downtown waterfront, 6:30 pm October 22 at Elliott’s (as Marty noted, right next to the Water Taxi dock). Not a fundraiser or donation drive, he elaborated in a FB update – no admission – just be there. The two have not announced another gig yet but did post a goofy little video about “Day 10” of unemployment; see it on FB here. (Photo courtesy Marty Riemer)

I miss them in the morning, throws my entire routine off….Marty, maybe you could come over, have a cup of coffee, add a little comedy and play tunes on my ipod? I would pay for that!!!

I can’t believe the Mountain. I’m fairly certain they ran a focus group of bean counters to make this decision. They sure as hell didn’t ask the audience. To heck with them, KEXP is just going to have to do.
Marty & Jodi, thanks for keeping us from being completely in the dark about your goings-on.
    See you at Elliott’s.
    Robert (Bainbridge Island)

Jodi, also a Westsider, and Marty always started my day right. I miss them so much. They are intelligent, funny, entertaining and current. They are perfect for the Seattle market and I can’t wait until they have a new show. I love you guys!

Get out there and vote for Marty and Jodi on King 5 Best of Western Washington! Vote ends Oct. 11th, and with time running out, they’re not showing who’s winning to “build suspense.”

If there was a “best person to fire” it should be Dave Benson!

Hey easy on the bean counters. I am a bean counter and commute from Bellingham to Darrington. I listened and loved every morning. Anyone care to “Blatent stereotype Dave Benson” or how about some Actual–Factual regarding other Endcom HR follies!

    Marty and Jodi,

You two are making “being on the beach” into a fun-sounding kind of thing…complete with a severance blow out party on the waterfront.

Keep on smiling, hang in there and you’ll soon be back on the airwaves for an even smarter station!

–your friend from the middle of the last century, Greg

My friends and I miss Marty and Jodi! The new DJs that replaced them are killing us. They do not have any personality and couldn’t come up with something witty to say if it was written on a paper in front of their face. I feel like I am listening to the easy listening station when they talk. My friends and I have switched to XM in the mornings now. KMTT made a big mistake! (I agree with Greg’s comment below…they just need a smarter station.)

I was out of town and finally looked up why Marty and Jody weren’t on in the morning. Unbelieveable and I am not going to listen to the Mountain any more, along with most of the other commenters. What a huge mistake! Is there more to it than meets the eye?

  • Scott November 3, 2009 (6:06 pm)

haven’t listened to the Mountain since Black Monday, the day the Mountain made the biggest mistake in Seattle radio. Still can’t believe what they did, Benson’s an idiot! Hope M & J land somewhere soon.

What they’re realy gone. I wa sout of town and I got blindsided!! Who is Dave Benson, one bad businessman and in these economic I hate my mornings. i initailly thought they were both on vacation or something. Then I thought the car repair guy changed my radio station while I had it in the shop whoile I was gone. Then I checked cause I was wondering when I was going to have some laughs on my wayto work…not happening. I do feel sorry for the replacement..tough shoes to fill. But I can’t listen, it’s painful! Bye, bye bad decision Dave!

I knew something was up! First the A-Z playlist (2 weeks which just weren’t the same) and then I tuned in this week and wondered what was up. I just search online to get the confirmation I dreaded. How could they????? I’m so sad! The Mountain just isn’t the same; they’ve lost a listener.

  • Dan Clements November 10, 2009 (2:48 pm)

Well, I tried listening to the new Mountain format for a few weeks, and have finally had to switch stations.

Hearing Sean Demery discuss the high cost of having his stitches removed, a second grade commentary about all the trouble he is about to go through searching for a refill for his favorite pen is too much.

The program has been dumb-downed to a level that almost anyone with an IQ higher than a bot fly would shake their heads in disbelief.

Marty: please post where you land so life can get back to normal.

    Cheers,

    Dan

Really? Sean Demery is the new permanent guy? Why? I had the same response as many to Jodi and Marty’s departure. I couldn’t believe it was true. I have been a listener since the mid-90’s. I enjoyed it when Marty switched to mornings as it made my morning drive delightful. Marty was responsible for adding great features to Seattle’s airwaves such as the 20 Funnies and top notch entertainment found in bits such as Blatant Sterotyping. I keep trying to listen to Sean, but he is so bland and the stuff he does on the air is boring! He should quit reading his hate mail on the air, it only adds to the dislike. I am sure he is a nice guy, but he has no dynamic features to his voice or show presentation. I wrote to the management at 103.7 and got a canned response. Too bad they didn’t do some market research first. Good thing I like country music, at least we have Fitz & Mary on The Wolf for the morning commute. Good luck to Marty and Jodi, we’ll be listening for your voices on the radio!

I was a fan of the Mountain from the first. Ah, I remember the Crow and West days well! I’ve sadly said goodbye to several favorite DJs over the years…but, Marty’s departure is the last straw! (Sorry, Jodi doesn’t mean quite as much to me.) I am no longer a Mountain listener. I guess I will switch to talk radio. Sigh!

  • Candace November 14, 2009 (1:31 pm)

I was out of town and then listening to audiobook. When I returned to the radio, I couldn’t figure out what was happening with the oldies that kept popping up. Then there were the lame comments! I finally found the time to look up what happened. I’m getting another book! What a let down. I’ve been with the mountain since the beginning and now I’m DONE! When Marty shows up on another station, I’m going there….

  • Nancie November 14, 2009 (6:13 pm)

I’m so in need of some Marty I am thrilled just to hear his voice on the Carter Subaru Ads. Listening to Sean is so painful. Even if I wasn’t a die hard Marty fan, listening to the moronic comments and banter in the morning is more than I can take. I now listen to my iPod until 9 and then I’ll listen to Shawn. I’m going to have to find a new station in the mornings and I haven’t listened to anything other than the Mountain in 15 years.
And what happened to Mary Whiteish? She seems to be gone now too. There are so few good people left on the Mt any more. Only Shawn and John and how long before they are gone!?

  • Mary November 17, 2009 (8:36 am)

Ok this has been so surreal. I woke up on Sept 28th, thought that maybe Marty and Jodi were on a vacation or something…went to work…was laid off…then I checked the mountain website and did not see anthing. I googled Marty and found they had been fired as well…Now I’m here checking to see if Marty is anywhere now…I just found a job…come on Seattle Radio…how about Marty!

  • Peggy November 17, 2009 (2:23 pm)

I miss Marty so much!!! I’ve been listening to him sinse 1997. The mornings are not the same. I do not listen to the new guy in the mornings on The Mountain. He is not Mountain material. I have never been a fan of Shaun Stewart. I only listen to John Fisher. He is the only decent DJ left on The Mountain. Fireing Marty was a big mistake. The guy is such a talent. He’ll land on his feet because he is a survivor. My best to you Marty Riemer.

I miss Marty and Jody so much that I moved to CA! Well, not completely true. I was moving to Ventura anyway. Marty and Jody are welcomed to come to this coastal town south of Santa Barbara anytime they want. I miss them and KMTT.

Sorry, comment time is over.
