West Seattle scene: Bellydance improv at Skylark

Double bill at Skylark Cafe and Club tonight – after turntable time, bellydancers took the stage. Dina Johnson shares the photo and a report:

Terrific bellydance show from 7:30 -8:30 at Skylark on Delridge, about 8 short sets by solo and troupe acts. The place was packed with bellydancers & friends, but at least one guy there for the self disc-spinning was surprised and HIGHLY entertained by the bellydance show.

Picture: 3 members of the polished Troupe Hipnotica, who improvise all their routines using invisible cues in American Tribal style. Julia, on the right, is a resident of Highland Park.

Could become a regular thing if enough interest, I hope so!

Skylark is at 3803 Delridge, just south of The Bridge (map), usually known a bit more for their four-nights-a-week live music (here’s the calendar).

I wish I had known about this. I would love for this to come to West Seattle. There is a monthly event in Fremont but I usually decide the drive is too much trouble.

I wish I could afford classes right now. Leslie Rosen teaches at Youngstown and she is awesome.

We mentioned it in the morning preview roundup – but we didn’t hear about it till we saw it go by on Twitter a day or two earlier, since Skylark’s live entertainment is currently usually Thursday-Sundays – TR

This is the “other” Julia. The organizers are trying to make this a monthly event. We will be sure to post it here!
You can also join our mailing list at http://www.troupehipnotica.com and we can send out an announcement when the next show is.

By the way, all three girls in this picture (Julia on the right, Julia in the middle and Corie left) are West Seattlites! And our studio is also in West Seattle! So we are proud to dance at a local venue!

It’s ON my friend! As I was leaving last night, Jessie, the owner of Skylark, said we are welcome to have Alauda become a regular event!

Alauda will be the THIRD TUESDAY of every month. The next show is October 20th!

If any West Seattle area dancers want to perform, contact me!

Some people are freaked out by clowns, for me it is belly dancers.

I’ve never been to Skylark before, and I guess there is now a reason I won’t be there on Tuesday nights.

Nothing personal. Belly dancing just gives me the creeps. Must be a repressed childhood trauma.

Sorry, comment time is over.
