Tonight’s HS football: Sealth’s first win, West Seattle’s first loss

More details to come, but first the scores, since both games are now over: Chief Sealth High School (1-2) blanked Cleveland for its first win, Sealth 30-Cleveland 0 at Southwest Athletic Complex … O’Dea beat West Seattle High School (2-1) 39-7 at West Seattle Stadium.

10:51 PM: Tonight’s win was actually Chief Sealth’s first since October 2007 – which was also against Cleveland. We’ve added a photo of tonight’s scoreboard at left. Sealth’s next two games are on the road (here’s the season schedule) – they’ll be at Ingraham at 7 pm next Friday.

ADDED 11:27 PM: More now from the WSHS game: West Seattle’s only touchdown came when quarterback Ellison Tran ran the ball in on the keep just a few minutes into the first quarter. The score came on West Seattle’s first possession of the game. The Wildcats moved the ball 75 yards on 11 plays.

Very early on, O’Dea had trouble finding their footing, but by the start of the second quarter they were controlling the pace of the game. O’Dea rolled through the second quarter and most of the third largely unscathed. After the game WSHS Coach Davis Lura talked about how his players fared.

West Seattle’s total offense came down to 160 yards rushing and 135 passing. Senior Markeem Adams accounted for roughly half of each of those totals. Next Friday, WSHS plays Nathan Hale at Southwest Athletic Complex, 7 pm. (Meantime, assistant principal Jenni MacDonald has updated her website with highlights from the game.)

The Sealth fans were whooping up a storm tonight! Not a complaint at all here, but lord SO LOUD – I’ve lived here for years and never heard them from my home until tonight. The band sounded great, btw! :)

Glad the Seahawks were victorious! Go Sealth!

That’s funny, I heard from someone else that said they could hear the band tonight – and I agree they’re sounding great!

The band looked to be about twice the size of past years. Can’t wait to see them on the field.

Sorry, comment time is over.
