Citywide traffic alerts – West Seattle too! – for next weekend

Another one of those weekend traffic alerts to share from SDOT – and this one includes two West Seattle events, the Evergreen State Barbecue Championships on Alki (no roads closed but you’ll see barbecuers lining the boardwalk starting Friday night and running till Sunday evening) and the West Seattle Junction Car Show (co-sponsored by WSB) on Sunday (closing California SW from Genesee to Edmunds, and Alaska from 42nd to 44th). Here’s the full alert:

Thousands of people are expected to turn out for the many
and varied sports events, Fremont Oktoberfest, the West Seattle Car
Show; and other events planned for the next four days, September 17-20.
The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) advises motorists to
plan on heavy traffic associated with these activities. The department
encourages motorists try something positive for the environment and
their budgets by heading to the events via Sounder, Link Rail, bus,
cycling or, if appropriate, walking.

Thursday, September 17
Seattle Mariners versus Chicago White Sox: 3:40 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Safeco Field
15,000
Expect traffic congestion around the stadium. The afternoon commute
could be significantly impacted in the SODO area and downtown.

Seattle Boats Afloat Show: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Chandler’s Cove on South Lake Union
2,000 expected

Seattle Police West Precinct Community Picnic: 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
400 expected
Streets closed 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Virginia Street between Eighth and
Ninth avenues except for Metro buses.

Friday, September 18
Seattle Boats Afloat Show: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Chandler’s Cove on South Lake Union
2,000 expected

Chase Jarvis Second Annual Anniversary Party: 4 p.m. – 11 p.m.

Street closed 8 a.m. – 11:59 p.m.: Wallingford Avenue N from N 34th
Street south to the dead-end.

Streets closed from 6 p.m. on Thursday to 11 p.m. on Sunday: N 35th
Street and N Canal Street (Phinney Avenue N –First Avenue NW).

Semi-finals: 7 p.m.

Expect heavier traffic between the I-5 Mercer Street off-ramp and the
Seattle Center prior to the game.

Seattle Mariners versus the New York Yankees: 7:10 p.m.
Safeco Field

Expect congestion around the stadium.

Husky Band Friday Night Rally and Procession: 8:55 p.m. – 10 p.m.
600 participants
Husky band and supporters will follow a procession through Greek Row.
Seattle Police will escort.

Saturday, September 19
Sea Mar Fiestas Patrias Festival: 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
South Park Playground (Eighth Avenue S and S Rose Street)
1,100 expected

Sea Mar Fiestas Patrias Parade: 11 a.m.
1,500 expected
Parade starts at 12th Avenue S and S Henderson; heads east on
Henderson to 14th Avenue S; north on 14th to S Cloverdale Street; west
on Cloverdale to Eighth Avenue S; and finally, north on Eighth to S Rose
Street. Seattle Police will escort.

Streets closed: Some begin at 4:30 a.m. and others at 6:15 a.m. –
vicinity of Genesee Park/Lake Washington Boulevard S (Seward Park I-90).
Lake Washington Boulevard will open to bicyclists at 10 a.m. for Bicycle
Sunday.

West Seattle Junction Car Show: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
West Seattle Junction

Streets closed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.: California Ave. SW (SW Genesee
– SW Edmunds Street) and SW Alaska Street (42nd – 44th Avenue SW).

Opening Ceremony March for International Association of Women Police
47th Annual Training Conference: 9 a.m.

March route: Starts at the Westin Hotel at Fifth Avenue and Stewart
Street; heads south on Fifth to Spring Street; east on Spring to Eighth
Avenue into Town Hall. Seattle Police will escort.

Summer Sundays on Pike Place: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Streets surrounding the Pike Place Market maybe congested.

u-turn onto the Burke-Gilman Trail; then south on the trail finishing at
Phinney Avenue N.
