In case you were wondering: Junction bus stop will be back

Is the Metro bus stop in front of the new QFC going to be put back after construction is finished? The stop used to be right infront of the middle of that lot along Alaska, across the street from Jefferson Square’s stop.

On behalf of Metro, Linda Thielke provided the answer, and we’re sharing it here in case anyone else was wondering the same thing:

SDOT has agreed to let the stop go back in if it can be at least 20′ back from the intersection. Looks like that will be possible once the construction is all finished.

Great news! I’ve wondered about that as well, as I used that stop often. It hasn’t been a really good option to get off in front of the Jiffy Lube and then try to cross Alaska without a light because the sidewalk is still closed on that side.

I’m really glad to see that stop going back in. I had wondered too, and was recently thinking of posting my concern in a thread relating to the project, or e-mailing WSB. A few weeks ago, I found out that it was planned that the stop would go back in, I believe from an indication on the project’s website.

It may seem a bit ridiculous to some to have three stops about a block apart, (in front of Moneytree/the quicklube joint, the one going back in, and the major one at the Junction), but when I was in poor health, that extra block to the Junction stop, after a visit to Bartell’s, or a visit to the Dr’s office in the Highline Medical Building on 41st, two blocks away, was definitely a struggle. And forget about trying to get across Alaska at 41st, to the Moneytree stop, when you can’t run across, if neccesary, not to mention no bench to sit on at that stop.

Now, in all honesty, I now usually walk the mile each way, but, obviously there are Seniors and others that may have difficulty in getting around, that ride the bus to and from J. Square, and the Medical Building.

This might be a little off subject, but talking about Capco Plaza, what ever happened to the ‘Staples’? QFC opens Sep 16th, but I don’t see any acivity, ‘coming soon’ signs, or work at their floor. Is that still planned at all?

It’s not Staples, but rather Office Depot. When I interviewed owner/developer Leon Capelouto recently, they were still in the works but lagging behind (QFC meantime is ahead of schedule). Only tangentially on subject, has anyone heard about the once proposed bus route from W. Sea. to Columbia City via the VA medical center? Seemed like it connected with the light-rail also. That sure would be great, but as a long-time Metro rider who has often had the unfortunate need to commute E.-W. within the city, the prospects of anything direct are probably pretty damned remote.

I’d be thrilled to death if they could just figure out a way to avoid scheduling the 54/55 back-to-back on Sundays.
