SATURDAY MORNING: Ivy Out Day, St. John’s Episcopal Church, 3050 California Ave SW. Saturday, August 1, 9:00 AM – Noon. Free barbecue at noon. You and the whole neighborhood are invited to come help restore a piece of creation on the corner of SW Hanford and California Ave SW. All the English ivy and other invasive plants on the south side of St. John’s along Hanford St. need to be removed. This is your chance to yank out one of the Northwest’s most noxious invasive “weeds.” The area is to be made ready for planting drought resistant native plant species later in the year. Dylan Mendenhall, a student at the University of Washington and a member of St. John’s, has led a group in coming up with a plan to create a park-like area on the south side of St. John’s along SW Hanford St. This will be for benefit of the whole neighborhood. Bring a shovel or clippers if you can and come ready to pull out the ivy. Hopefully it will cool down a bit before Saturday.

SATURDAY MORNING: Give back to West Seattle and get a good work out too! Join the Friends of Lincoln Park on Saturday, 8-1-09, from 9 am to noon as we work to restore the forests of our wonderful park. Meet at the kiosk in the north parking lot (across from Rose St). Sturdy shoes, protective clothing. I’ll have garden gloves and tools, or bring your favorites. Contact Sharon Baker (206) 935-1769
