Another one. How much money has been spent on rescuing those divers now?

    Not a diver, see update.

I can’t believe what I just read. “Jiggers” questions the merits of emergency crews rescuing a kayaker overcome by heat. Way to go, man. You’re a real human being, real compassionate. Suggest you make your own way to the ER if you ever have an accident.

Apparently someone on shore misinterpreted what was happening, and called Emergency Services. No overheating involved. Just a fairly inexperienced paddler learning how to re-enter his kayak while on the water. Unfortunately, we have no control over what an uninformed bystander might do or think.
What I DO know is that we have fantastic EMS services over here in West Seattle, and are lucky to be able to enjoy the water knowing that when we really ARE in trouble, good help is quickly on the way.

Overheated kayaker is what emergency personnel told us at the scene, and that’s why we quoted them as saying that.

No quibbles with your information. I rely on WSB for accurate, objective reporting on happenings in my neighborhood. But I was with the guy, and overheating was never mentioned. We got back on shore and he joked, “well, I accomplished what I wanted to — cooling off!” But it was just a funny aside in what was clearly an awkwardly misinterpreted situation.

Even in 104F temps you wont overheat “in” the sound “outside” of your kayak! Hmmmmm.

Sorry, comment time is over.
