From the Alaskan Way Viaduct‘s two-hour northbound lane closure during Saturday night’s Seafair Torchlight Run to games earlier that day at BOTH stadiums, and beyond, it’s going to be a mega-busy weekend. We just got the official citywide traffic advisory – read on:
This coming weekend, Friday through Sunday, July 24 -26, is
packed with parades, festivals and races. Many of the events will be
attracting large crowds. To avoid traffic delays associated with the
weekend events, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT)
encourages event-goers to consider leaving the car at home and trying
other modes of travel.Of particular note, major traffic snarls are anticipated in the SODO
area on Saturday. The Sounders take to the field at noon at Qwest Field
and the first pitch of the Mariners game is at 1:10 p.m. at nearby
Safeco Field. In addition, at 6:30 p.m., the Seafair Torchlight Run
sets off outside Qwest Field on Occidental heading north on the closed
northbound Alaskan Way Viaduct and eventually returns to finish on
Occidental. As the race comes to an end, the ever- popular Seafair
Torchlight Parade gets underway at 7:30 p.m. along Fourth Avenue from
Broad Street to Qwest Field and is expected to draw up to 350,000
spectators. Motorists bound for the events in the SODO area on Saturday
are urged to park and walk or ride the bus, or take the Sounder or Sound
Transit’s new Link light rail.Friday, July 24
