New start date for 16th SW work: Week of July 27th

Last week, the city said it expected the 16th SW paving work to start “the week of July 20th”; now SDOT has sent an update saying the road closure (and detour shown above) will kick in a week later than that. Read on for the latest advisory:

the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) is
reconstructing the worst section of 16th Avenue SW this summer. The
street will be closed to northbound traffic from SW Austin Street to SW
Findlay Street beginning the week of July 27. This project is part of
the “Bridging the Gap” transportation levy approved by Seattle
voters.

This project will involve reconstruction and minor widening of the
roadway on 16th Avenue SW between SW Findlay Street and SW Brandon
Street.

Work includes:
● roadway pavement removal and replacement
● drainage improvements including new curb and gutters
● sidewalk repaving on the west side of the street
● rebuilding concrete driveway aprons to match the new road

Construction work is expected to continue for approximately six weeks
to eight weeks.

Northbound Traffic Detour:
During construction, northbound traffic will be detoured via SW Austin
Street / Dumar Way SW / SW Orchard Street and Delridge Way SW.
Northbound Metro bus service will be provided as far north as South
Seattle Community College, then detoured. Detour signs will be posted.

Southbound traffic will be maintained.
