West Seattle business news: 2 more Admiral arrivals

FIRST ADMIRAL NOTE: The second business to move into the long-empty space at 42nd/Admiral is finally ready to go public – joining CF West Seattle (here’s our previous story on CF-WS) will be Muttley Crew Cuts, currently located further south on California. Muttley Crew Cuts’ Kelly Rothenbuhler tells WSB they’re planning to move into the new space June 15, and it makes more growth possible for MCC: “It is a much bigger space at 3000 square feet. We will be able to do a lot more day care because we have more room for the dogs to run. There will be separate areas set up for different play types. There will be 2 larger areas and 1 puppy area and a senior dog area. The space also will allow for more retail area in the future. We will be open 7 days a week Monday through Friday 7 am to 7 pm and Saturday and Sunday 9 am to 6 pm.” A banner marking the new location might be up as soon as tomorrow. By the way, Muttley Crew Cuts and CF West Seattle are BOTH participating in West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day this Saturday, at the new space at 42nd and Admiral (their sales are #14 and #15 on the map – get it here) — CF is selling to benefit the Liver Foundation, Muttley Crew’s sale will benefit English Springer Rescue America.

SECOND ADMIRAL NOTE: Thanks to Forest for the tip on this – a short distance from the spot we were just discussing, Bloom Preschool and Transitional Kindergarten is opening in The Admiral (the building with Bartell Drugs). Here’s the school’s website with more info.

Hooray for new Muttley Crew Cut digs! We’ve been taking our dog there for grooming for a few years now, and we LOVE them. Kelly and the staff are wonderful, and our dog Bear always looks gorgeous at the end of his stay. We are sad to be moving from West Seattle to Magnolia (tomorrow, in fact), but we will still bring Bear over to Muttley for his monthly grooming. Sending lots of good wishes to Kelly and the whole Muttley crew (ha!) for huge success in the new space. I can’t wait to see it!

Did Mutley Crew Cuts change ownership in the last couple years? We took our dog their for grooming about 3 years ago and did not have a great experience. I would love to give them a 2nd chance at daycare. We have been going to Stella Ruffington’s which is great except on rainy days when our dog comes home soaked.

We purchased the business almost 2 years ago. We would love for you to give us another try.

I have been taking my Mini-Schnauzer to The West Seattle Doghouse Day Care for two years. I would highly recommend you check out the Doghouse for your dog’s daycare needs prior to signing on with Muttley Crew Cuts. The Doghouse is very professionally operated, clean, reasonably priced and Carol/Javier really love the dogs! They also provide service for vacation and work travel and it is wonderful that I know my little guy is well cared for when I am out of town.

I would highly recommend The Dog Wash on Calif. Avenue for grooming. Cecelia the groomer is excellent! I have taken my schnauzer to Muttley Crew Cuts and it was not at all what Bernadette and The Wash Dog offers!

Please check out the West Seattle Doghouse Day Care and The Wash Dog for fantastic care for your dogs!!

As a resident on that block, I really worry about the traffic, parking and noise. I’m a dog lover and owner, but when Lady Di’s was in our alley the noise would echo and wake me up at all hours. I understand the need to fill retail spaces with new businesses, just not sure about the location on this one.

I want to say “ditto” to the previous comments about West Seattle Dog House Daycare and the Wash Dog. I’ve taken my schnoodle to Carol at the WS Dog House for six years now and it really is his home away from home. Because it’s in a home setting, he gets to play outside in the fresh air and come in from the elements when the weather is bad. I never worry about “my boy” when he’s with Carol. And as far as grooming, Cecelia at the Wash Dog is the best I’ve found!

I worry too about the location. It’s so close to very busy Admiral Way and it would be so easy for a dog to zip off into traffic going in or out..plus where will dog owners park during the busy pick up/drop off times? For grooming we take our dog to Pretty Paws in Burien, always happy there..plus before we pick him up we go to Trader Joes!

I too had a bad experience with MCC under the previous owner. When I took my dog in during the December storm, I would not describe the experience as one that would make me return in a hurry.

Sorry, comment time is over.
