What a weekend – more than FIFTY events in our area! wswllicon3.pngIncluding – Earth Day work parties and festivals, Healthy Kids Day at the West Seattle Family YMCA (WSB sponsor), a movie star at Admiral Theater (which is still celebrating its impending SIFF debut), a spaghetti dinner to raise money for ARK Park, local students show their talent including the “Fashion Through the Ages” Seattle Lutheran HS duo and Chief Sealth HS musicians, freebies including free Sunday yoga at Sound Yoga and free jazz at Admiral Church (both WSB sponsors) plus free swimming at Southwest Pool — here’s the full West Seattle Weekend Lineup, brought to you by Skylark Cafe and Club:

SATURDAY MORNING-AFTERNOON: Nature Consortium 2nd Annual Earth Day Celebration. Cooper Elementary School, 9:30 am – 3:00 pm 1901 SW Genesee Street. Come join Nature Consortium and Earth Corps volunteers in further cleanup and develpment of the hilltop. The work party will be followed by Nature Consortium‘s own Earth Day Festival at Cooper Elementary, which is free, family friendly, and open to the public. All are invited to come and enjoy free food, kids hands-on art activities, and performances by a wide array of artists. There will also be on-going nature hikes, an arts and environment tabling area, a fantastic raffle, and more!

SATURDAY NIGHT: Walter Dalton, one of the featured stars of the hit independent film, Wendy & Lucy will attend the screening of the movie at the Admiral Theater‘s 7:00 p.m. show, Saturday, April 18th. He will conduct a Q&A with the audience immediately after the show. The film has won various awards at several movie festivals, including Best Picture and Best Actress for Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain) as well as for the writer & director, Kelley Reichardt, (Old Joy).

SUNDAY MORNING AND EVENING: Admiral Church (WSB sponsor) has a tradition of continuing its celebration of the Easter season with “Jazz Sunday,” the Sunday after Easter (April 19th). We will begin with a “jazz flavored” worship service at 10:30am with Grace Holden, the Admiral Choir and special guests, followed by a jazz concert event at 7:00pm featuring The Overton Berry Ensemble with the extraordinary talents of Bernie Jacobs (flute and tenor sax), Hawk Arps (vibes), Jeff Davies (bass), Rick Spano (percussion) and our own Grace Holden (vocalist). There will be a pre-concert reception at 6:00pm. The community is invited to both events.
