West Seattle food: Sneak peek inside new Zeeks Pizza

If you remember this space at Fauntleroy/California as the Corner Inn, you probably won’t recognize it now that the work transforming it into West Seattle’s first Zeeks Pizza is almost done. We just got the chance to take a quick look inside, though crews are still working hard on finishing touches to get it ready to open Friday as planned (4 pm). Here’s a closer look at the counter in the background of the top photo, followed by a peek inside the kitchen:

Only thing we have for pre-Zeeks comparison is video we shot inside the day the Corner Inn fixtures were auctioned last July (less than two months before news broke of impending pizza):

Our full report on that July 2008 auction, including more video, is here. (Added 2:18 pm) Here’s a video clip from today, including a look at the roof/ceilings, quite different from the Corner Inn configuration:

While Zeeks does some franchising, this one is a company-owned store; for delivery, the chain offers online ordering, too. The new pizza restaurant is opening eleven months after the Corner Inn‘s sudden shutdown.

Look at those gleaming pizza ovens! Wow.

  • Diane April 29, 2009 (3:08 pm)

I like seeing the stack of highchairs; baby friendly

Welcome to the neighborhood Zeeks, nice to have you!

Anybody want to play ‘what beers will they have on tap?’. I think I recognize a Stella Artois as the middle tap in the left hand cluster. Anybody else?

  • Sandra April 29, 2009 (3:19 pm)

WSB you’re awesome!! Just a note, though: the ‘events’ section still has the old time listed, instead of the updated time of 4pm (for Friday’s grand opening event).

I think the turnout will be great, even in this tough economy. ‘Pizza out’ somewhat affordable and folks’ll be supporting a new neighborhood restaurant!

  • biankat April 29, 2009 (3:41 pm)

Do you think I can place an online order today for Friday evening’s delivery :)

  • WSB April 29, 2009 (3:43 pm)

uh oh, i changed that last night, which means maybe I filed over a version and lost something else … we’re upgrading to better calendar software very soon, which should pre-empt that!

I think I also see Manny’s and Widmer Hef on tap. Yay for pizza and beer! :)

speaking of dates, the sidebar says the WS comm. garage sale day is May 3. Isn’t it May 9?

  • Manuel W. April 29, 2009 (4:43 pm)

They better get a hell of a lot more high chairs, this is West Seattle!

  • WSB April 29, 2009 (5:55 pm)

Sam, thanks, I’m afraid Team WSB is so fixated on mapmaking at the moment (the map is debuting at the May 3rd Sustainable WS Fest) that we screwed up the date. Fixed now. The ex-proofreader is highly embarrassed … TR

  • Eddie April 29, 2009 (6:21 pm)

Manuel – they won’t need more high chairs, all the little rug rats will be turned loose to run around and pretend they are playing video games – ala Rocksport.

  • LoHo April 29, 2009 (6:59 pm)

Does anyone know if they deliver from the new West Seattle lo-cal??

  • Diane April 29, 2009 (7:35 pm)

This Zeek’s will no doubt be every bit as kid-friendly as the Phinney one, and that is like Kid Vegas.
Dig the design of this one! A GREAT fixture for Morgan Junction.

I have been a longtime fan of Abbondanza and though I like Zeek’s, I am concerned about them squishing Abbondanza’s business…

  • AD April 29, 2009 (9:03 pm)

Love the large windows. That building seemed so closed in before.

    Coupon in Valpak!

  • yeah! April 29, 2009 (9:09 pm)

Zeeks we are SO excited to have you! Welcome and good luck on your grand opening and first month! Can’t wait to enjoy your pizza :)

  • Elizabeth P April 29, 2009 (9:29 pm)

I am looking forward to this. I hope they have salads too and wine of course. I don’t think I have been to a Zeeks before, but it will be nice having one close to home.

  • WSB April 29, 2009 (9:31 pm)

The menu’s on their website – they have several types of salad.

Hey! It’s just pizza. The prices make me feel like it’s a fine dining steak house. And, thanks for the warning about it being a likely hangout for parents with screaming rugrats. I think I’ll skip it.

  • TeresaP April 30, 2009 (10:38 am)

Kids running around a restaurant while the world is fighting off a flu virus?? Not really a good idea if you ask me.

Whatever happened to children having manners and SITTING STILL during a meal?? I too have witnessed the mayhem at the Rocksport, I just do not get it.

    Glad they will deliver.

  • Willie Murderface April 30, 2009 (5:16 pm)

Just another hipster joint we don’t need. I’ll continue to support Pagliacci and Abbondanza.

  • hopey May 1, 2009 (11:49 am)

Oooh! Is there really a coupon in Valpak, or were you just wishing for one?
    .
Also: is the back patio attached to Zeek’s, or to Feedback Lounge? The answer to that question will determine whether we try to eat at Zeek’s tonight, or if we just pick up a pizza to take home…

  • Syd May 1, 2009 (9:32 pm)

Even with the coupon, these guys are PRICEY. If I am paying for a quality Pizza I will have to pick Pagliacci and Abbodanza any day. They both have Pizza I dream about. Literally. I love pizza that much.

  • WSB May 4, 2009 (3:56 am)

Willie, you can’t get much further from hipster than Zeeks as we experienced it last night … more like big roomy noisy family pizza joint. Syd, those are both good places too — Pagliacci is no cheaper than Zeeks, and for some of us, there’s one factor to consider – re: delivery, Pagliacci still won’t go as far south as what I might call our residence in north upper Fauntleroy. It’s all of two miles. We’ve had that discussion here over and over again, but it’s still a shame. I see pizza delivery vehicles running around up here all the time – Pagliacci continues to lose out on potential business; I know we’d call now and then …

  • BORN&RAISED WEST SEATTLEITE May 5, 2009 (9:12 pm)

Glad to see the Corner Inn Dive gone!! That place was a DUMP!! Anything is better there than that drunk gang haven!!

Sorry, comment time is over.
