West Seattle Crime Watch: Two burglaries; sideswipe hit-and-run

First, a West Seattle Crime Watch update – if you saw our first report this morning about the Senior Center burglary, take another look – we added a surveillance-cam screengrab later, provided by police. Now, two even newer burglaries – Rob and Naomi e-mailed to say it happened to their home in Sunrise Heights this afternoon:

Our home in the 7500 block of 32nd Avenue SW [map] was broken into today sometime between Noon and 4 PM. They stole a TV and other items like jewelry that’s more of a sentimental value than monetary. If anyone saw anything or if anyone seems stuff dumped on the road, please post! Thanks and keep watch on yourselves and neighbors!

And from Richard and Brenda:

Our neighbor in the 3400 block of 47th (along the west side of Madison Middle School) [map] had a break-in today. A wedding ring, lap top, and electronics were stolen. The police said that there have been a series of break-ins in the area.

Also, from the WSB Forums, another hit-and-run sideswipe – this time near 50th and Edmunds [map].

Just curious to know whether either of these residences had an alarm system. We have one but always wonder how much of a difference it makes.

We were robbed. We have an alarm. But I was only gone for a few hours and didn’t set it. Won’t make that mistake again.

Be sure to look on Craigslist and eBay for your items. I’ve known 3 people who’ve found their laptops on craigslist after they were stolen. 1 got his back because it also included theft of a vehicle and the police actually did something about it. My suggestion is if you know it’s yours, get your lawyer and go after them and force SPD to wrangle these people in. This is happening too often and my guess is it’s the same set of people stealing.

Re: The break-in on 47th. Does anyone know the scope of the area where the series of break-ins have occurred? My husband and I noticed that our front door look looks like it may have been tampered with but we aren’t 100% sure (not sure if it was always like that and we have never noticed).

Naomi did anyone see anything happen yesterday? I was walking my dog around 11 I think ( I live on 31st) and I saw a kinda sketchy man walk by but didn’t think too much about it. he wasn’t carrying anything just kept walking down Webster across 31st. I can give you a description but i think I have seen him before.

We live on the same through street and east a couple of blocks. I work from home and damn, was in a meeting during this time. I keep my eyes VERY wide open. I will continue to snoop and notice cars and people who truly don’t “need to be” in our neighborhood.

ALWAYS set your alarm and be diligent AND vigilant in protecting your property. These AHs are coming into neighborhoods they case and know people’s patterns. And, essentially those of us who actually WORK for what we have.

Alarms deter if you use them properly and let everyone know that entering your property in anyway will cause them problems.

Do not be passive to this problem. It is escalating and unless we work together, will get worse before every getting better.

Will we see you at the SW Precinct meeting tonight?

P.S. Also engage your mailman and let him know this happened and the day/time. Tell your neighbors near you as well.

Hi everyone, thanks for the tips. Yes we will be setting our alarm all the time now. Also replacing all doors with something called a bulldog face plate that helps prevent people from being able to easily kick it in.I’m definitely going to the meeting at the SW Precinct on Thursday.Perhaps I will meet some of you there. It’s definitely hard to feel good about leaving the house now…

To Tis – I’m not aware that anyone saw anything. Given the timing of charges on my stolen credit card, I’d say it happened between Noon and 1PM.

Sorry, comment time is over.
