West Seattle Crime Watch: Police search for Gatewood prowlers

Received the alert from Shelley via Facebook, police searching for suspected prowlers right now in the 37th/Thistle vicinity (map) – she subsequently talked to one of the officers; read on for what she reports:

I just talked to the police who are going around now on foot with their flashlights looking for these prowlers. They are shining their flashlights up in-between our homes because they believe the 2 suspects are hiding around here. He said they were last seen on 37th & Thistle street. He said it all originated when they went to a home on 37th & Donovan and prowled the outside of (a home). They are described as a black male with a hooded sweatshirt and a hispanic male both on foot. There are a couple of cars up here w/police out looking for them. Just FYI.

We will check with police to see if there is anything more to add. Reminder, police stress, call 911 if you see anyone/anything suspicious – Southwest Precinct police leadership is very clear, if you’re not sure whether it’s 911-worthy or not, default to 911, better safe than sorry. 11:18 PM UPDATE: Shelley reports police have left the neighborhood. No word of any arrests.

I think the guy in the hooded sweatshirt may be who came to our door around 4 pm yesterday here in Fairmount Springs (original post on the “door-to-door” topic). Considering how fast the guy took off we wondered if he was checking out the place. Who knows…but it sure sounds coincidental.

Earlier that day I saw 2 people generally matching that description going door to door at 39th and Thistle as I drove by. When someone comes to your door always ask if they have a city solicitors license. If they have one, take a good look at it. If they don’t call the police. Odds are good they’re casing the neighborhood.

These “prowlers” might be the Garlic Jim door to door advertising gentlemen…they have been in our neighborhood this week.

Sorry, comment time is over.
