Two reports of incidents over the past week — a Fauntlee Hills break-in and Jefferson Square car vandalism — read on:
First, a WSB’er forwarded a Block Watch note about a break-in this past Thursday at a home near 37th and Henderson (map). The items stolen included electronics.
One key point of the e-mail forwarded to us, however, is a reminder to us all:
At least one person in that block heard something but dismissed it as probably nothing since the noise did not continue. … This is a reminder to our great neighborhood to please continue to be alert to anything unsual that you see, hear, or sense. Investigate everything and dismiss nothing until you prove to yourself it is not a threat to you or your neighbor. Of course we always want to keep ourselves safe, that is the most important thing. ALWAYS just call 911 if you’re suspicious or see or hear something that doesn’t seem right.
The area Block Watch is thinking about posting flyers to alert neighbors to be extra watchful because of the burglary. If you’d like to know more about organizing a Block Watch in your area, the person to contact is the Southwest Precinct crime-prevention coordinator, Benjamin Kinlow (here’s how to reach him).
Note #2 – car vandalism at Jefferson Square last Tuesday night:
Dropping you a note to report an unfortunate occurrence on Tuesday evening. I returned to my car parked on the street west of Jefferson Square Safeway after a five minute grocery trip, to find my convertible top slashed in several places. High winds and sideways sheets of rain that night, so lots of damage. In fact, early estimate is nearly $4,000 of damage.
