Reminder: The bag ban may be on hold, but the foam ban is on

Got a “media advisory” from Seattle Public Utilities today, with a reminder that the foam-packaging ban passed by the City Council with the plastic-bag ban is taking effect January 1st (the bag ban is on hold pending a citywide vote next year) – and food-service businesses are invited to a “trade fair” this Wednesday, to meet with “sellers of compostable food-service ware” – if you’re interested, read on:

From the Seattle Public Utilities advisory:

This Wednesday (Dec. 10), Seattle Public Utilities is hosting a trade fair–Compost Now!–that will bring together representatives of the city’s 4,500 food service establishments with sellers of compostable foodservice ware.

Vendors will showcase compostable foodservice ware that has been approved for use by Cedar Grove Composting, the regional compost processor. Food-service businesses will be able to compare availability, pricing, and performance of compostable alternatives, including: cold and hot cups; straws; clamshells; bowls; sushi trays; utensils; and plates.

DATE: Dec. 10, 2008

TIME: 1:30-4:30 p.m.

LOCATION: Union Station, Great Hall, 401 S Jackson St.

I would love it if these vendors could be put into a link-I can’t make the fair and need to buy some of these products. Can WSB do that?

On its website Seattle Public Utilities maintains a list of compostable food service products. Here’s the link:
