Before launching the next round of weather-related coverage, a non-weather note – a door-to-door alert from Megan, who lives on Fauntleroy “a few blocks from The Junction” – she wants to know if anyone else has had this visit:
We just had someone – in this weather, no less – come to our door, asking for donations for a youth anti-smoking program. He had a clipboard and some pamphlets, one of which he gave me then immediately took back when I told him we had no money, so unfortunately I could not get any information on who he was claiming to be affiliated with. He was also carrying a clipboard. Our front window was open, but our porch light was not on, yet this fellow knocked anyway. Was just wondering if anyone there knew anything about any current campaigns, I know a lot of people ask for money around Christmas, but I always get just a little weirded out when people come to our house without notification first. I also found it strange that, when I can watch people slipping up and down the sidewalk all day (and I myself nearly fell trying to get out of my car), there would be door-to-door people out.
A reminder to all – there are city rules covering door-to-door solicitors, including license requirements, and we keep them for handy reference at the bottom of the WSB Crime Watch page; here’s a direct link.
