Neighborhood alert: Smashing pumpkins – not the musical kind

Just out of the WSB inbox from Doug:

Wanted to let folks in the Seaview neighborhood know that it may be time to ditch your pumpkins if you still have them on the porch. Looks like some vandals had one heck of a night smashing pumpkins in the streets from 46th Ave SW to 49th Ave SW (basically from Graham all the way down to Brandon; map). I counted at least 7 during a morning walk. While that seems pretty tame, it appears the same group managed to destroy a couple of “For Sale” signs in front of some homes as well.

I suggest that you all thank your lucky stars (or other favorite deity) that this actually counts as news!

Nobody shot anyone. Nobody tried to sell anyone any drugs. The Central Area would be happy to have this as news.

When talk in our (Miller Park) Neighborhood Association turned to parking issues, I took that as a sign that that things were going pretty well.

Oh, we talk parking too. Got something coming up on that later today. Crime is in a semi-lull at the moment (knock wood). But as you know, because you guys all do such a great job over there, sharing “be on the lookout,” neighbor to neighbor, neighborhood to neighborhood, has its value! – TR

Seems to me demolishing a moldy old jack-o-lantern still sitting on the porch a full month after Halloween could be considered a public service… :)

In the age of people murdering, maiming, and violating each other…this is NOTHING. Smashing pumpkins was a small town past time when I was a kid (oh, so many years ago!) If you leave your gourd out this long after the “standard holiday” beware of the serial pumpkin smasher!! And, thank god no one threw it through your window “just for fun”.

when the kids were young, put out a punkin. kids came up the steps and smashed it, last time i ever did that. give the punkins to the crows.

Sorry, comment time is over.
