West Seattle Crime Watch: Marine View Drive alert

Meg sends word of two break-ins last night:

Two of my neighbors stopped by tonight to say that their homes/cars had been broken into in the 10,000 block of Marine View Drive, just south of 102nd (map).

One burglar used a compression air gun to try to break through double-paned windows. The suspect awakened the homeowners, the husband came to the front window, opened the door and startled the burglar, who was unarmed. The homeowner then called 911. Apparently the police tracked the suspect with a dog but lost the scent. They showed the homeowner a mug shot and the suspect the guy identified had a record of being arrested 11 times for burglary. …

I’m (in the 10200 block) and my neighbor just to the south was also burglarized last night: The thief took his GPS unit out of his truck.

Nice to know that even on a street as busy and non-pedestrian friendly as Marine View, people are still watching out for each other! Crummy that we seem to be having a West Seattle crime spree.

11 arrests for burglary? Maybe it would make sense to keep him in prison or at least make him wear a GPS tracking device while he is out. Our society is WAY too easy on these jerks…

Judging from the posts the last few days, it looks like there is a lot of activity lately in WS. I expect to see patrols beefed up a bit.

I agree, 11 times is crazy. What do we do? I realize it costs thousands of dollars to prosecute and jail these felons, but what about the thousands of dollars the innocent victims pay-out for lost (sometimes irreplaceable) items and insurance claims.

We need to figure something out, because this is unacceptable. Maybe if a political official or police were victims there might be harsher penalties.

    Description of Marine View burglar:
Young (16-17) Black male 6’3″ slender build 150 – 160lbs. short hair, neatly dressed in blue jeans and sweatshirt, also wearing tennis shoes and backback. The suspect is well known to police and they are very interested in acquiring any and all imformation you may have or may witness.
    Keep your eyes open!
    Thanks

Sorry, but expecting SPD to step up patrol in WS is a joke. The GPS tracking devise should be inserted into his neck; just like a dog.

This would be a good instance of “sneakers” rather than “tennis shoes”. ):

Sorry, comment time is over.
