Chief Sealth Band uniform drive on the march

chiefsealthband.jpg

Tim Winston, best known lately for West Seattle Hi-Yu but serving this time around as a “Chief Sealth band fan,” sent the above photo with the following info:

Chief Sealth High Band has been raising money for new uniforms for several years and is closing in on the goal. They are trying to raise the last bit that will push them over the top.

The band members in the picture are wearing their current, difficult to fit & maintain, uniforms and holding a picture of the new uniforms. The new design has been a collaborative effort by band members, led by their director, Deborah Meyer.

What this band needs are some skinny jeans and faux-vintage puck rock t-shirts.

    Those are an improvement?

Note the kids themselves worked on the design. Not a matter of looks, which are always subjective, so much as dealing with old, ill-fitting costumes – maybe these are made with better material, perhaps. We love to see local marching bands in parades but always wonder what it must be like under those heavy uniforms (ever seen JFK from Burien? those uniforms look a lot like the “new” Sealth ones depicted above, including the hat decoration, very classic) … TR (high-school choir, not band, so never got to march)

Comfort should be first, cool lookin’ next. I HATED wearing those uniforms! Especially the hunnert pound white bucks they called shoes back in the 60’s. But I really do like loud Hawaiian shirts!

Sorry, comment time is over.
