Without pictures it’s just no fun to try to identify them. I know there was a turtle or tortoise from Lafayette Elementary that was placed with a family – her name was Shelly. Hope they’re claimed soon.
We always run photos when we get ’em but this one was text only. Just seemed unusual that two would turn up a day apart.
Ah, if it’s true that Shelley kills and eats her mates, one might speculate that her caretakers didn’t want to see the dramatic and untimely end. Perhaps he’s ‘running’ in the opposite direction, or maybe the family gave him a head start wishing them both the best.
Tort finally made it back home!!

Okay, just kidding. I think I related a story some months ago, on a thread here on WSB, about how when I was a kid, we had a desert tortoise, and between my older brother and me, he went to several (or so I remember) show-n-tells at Lafayette, back in the ’60’s.
.
In 1973, a my step-sister and her then husband dropped him off, at my step-mom’s request in the desert in Arizona, where they were moving to.
.
So, 35 years seems about right for him to make it back home, and apparently with a wife! And I have to say, he did very well, making it probably within about 1/2 mile of where I currently live, when not only did we live in the Belvedere area in the ’60’s, but his last Washington State home was in Silverdale, when we lived there.
.
Maybe he looked me up in the phone book, and they were just taking the scenic route through some residentials, when they were found, instead of coming straight down California Av! :P
