Crime Watch reader report: Car vandalism

E-mailed by “j”:

Last night around 1130 we were awakened by some banging that sounded like fireworks. I went out on the front porch and saw nothing …. all was quiet. About 15 min later there were a couple of police cars in front of our house. Someone got ALL of the windows smashed out of their car and apparently other cars on the block were hit. We’re on 44th and Findlay [map].

(P.S. Crime Watch side note for those in north West Seattle — sorry, still no further details on last night’s search.)

This happens a lot around here it seems. I’ve lived on 34th Ave SW between Henderson and Trenton for 4 years now. And once per year my windows are smashed also along with others in the neighborhood. It’s really annoying to say the least.

funny thing…I watched a news report on KING TV this eveing about Laurelhurst, an area some consider “upper upper”, and they were talking about the car prowling, the car vandalism, etc, and how bad it is there. The woman being interviewed referred to the “laptop being stolen again”…or the GPS taken….and I thought that gee, living in an “upper upper” area doesn’t make you immune to being dense…if you park your car outside leave NOTHING of value in it…you’re asking for it, if you do. It’s not that hard to figure out.

If the vandalism we hear about in West Seattle isn’t about stealing, just being destructive, that’s another thing, and I sympathize. Sort of setting up some kind of camera surveillance, I’m not sure what you can do to nail the culprits…definitely a conundrum. At least the police are aware, and perhaps a pattern will emerge, and they will figure it out…

I would think that smart criminals would hit up more wealthy neighborhoods! alot of my friends are from laurelhurst and make the carefree mistake of leaving doors and windows unlocked at all times of day! they tell me im paranoid…

Something is going on in WS.. maybe it’s the higher population that equals more crime or the higher probability of uncivilized behavior? In the past week on California between Charlestown and Oregon (just a few blocks) in broad day light I have seen a drunk passed out at the bus stop infront of 7-11, a young male urinating on the wall behind the 7-11, and a homeless male stopping to hurl multiple times while strolling down CA.

Sorry, comment time is over.
