Opening day for Pioneer Coffee on Alki

pioneeropen1.jpg

Thanks to Patricia for the tip, which we just confirmed by phone – Pioneer Coffee’s Aimonetto, in the ex-Alki Mail/Dispatch location at 2536 Alki, is finally open as of today; they’ll be open till 9 pm tonight, said the cheery person who answered the phone, also noting they open at 5:30 am. (We’ve been tracking the progress here since the business name first surfaced last September.)

Good luck to them, but I’m looking for the ultimate West Seattle Small Business…

Coffee + Pet Supplies in the same store… :-)

I wish someone would open something like this NYC coffee shop:

Customers can custom blend their own coffees on the spot. A pneumatic system selects beans from individual hoppers where it is combined, ground and brewed (by cup) on the spot. The coffee is amazing.

They were open at noon yesterday. I stopped by late last afternoon, got a mocha (very good). They still have a bit of interior work to do, but it’s a nice looking place (little fireplace and all). I enjoyed sitting out in their chairs out front watching the scene on the beach. I wish them luck, so far it seems nice.

I STILL like Alki Mail & Dispatch (half way up Admiral now) which has great coffee, but for an Alki location, I’ll take a small business like this over Starbucks.

That NY roaster where you can ‘blend you own’ coffee is cute…but I’m much rather have a professional do it. It is a bit of an art. Don’t like Starbucks (who really does) there are dozens of insanely good micro-roasters in Seattle. Just my top fav 4 (in order) are:
