Another Crime Watch reader report: South Admiral break-in

We’re overdue for a Southwest Precinct report review but today it seems most of the reports are coming directly to us, too, anyway – like this one just out of the WSB inbox:

SW Stevens and 46th Ave SW Break-In

Today, Wed. March 5th, our high school son came home for early dismissal and found our house ransacked. After giving the police a report, we are realizing we were lucky no one was hurt. After kicking in our back door the thieves had time between 9 and 11:30 am to go through, search and make a mess of 6 different rooms in our house. They took coins, cash, cameras, and I-Pods. If you saw anything suspicious in the neighborhood 2-4 blocks west of PCC today please call the police.

One side note, thanks to everyone for clearly describing their location when sending in these types of reports. It really helps alert your West Seattle neighbors to exactly where things are happening so they can be on the lookout too.

My folks live close by there and I was there around 11:00 o’ clock and only saw a huge yellow moving truck on that street. They kept moving, then parking, then moving again, and my dad and I thought it weird since no one is moving or have their house up for sale. This was between 11-11:15, Sorry, that happened to you.

I am so sorry this happened to you. We went through it a year ago and are still trying to recover (no insurance and our house was completely trashed in addition to the things taken) It’s horrific. Definitely don’t feel ashamed or like you’re wrong if you feel quite traumatized for some time. It’s normal to have a lot of strange feelings around safety come up.

Take care, and please accept my condolences. Let me know if you need anything.

This doesn’t sound related but my neighbors have spotted a man driving an old white van on our street for the last three days. We are on 37th Ave SW. He has been spotted wearing a baseball cap, walking into back yards during the day. The police were called and managed to find him and talk to him but a neighbor witnessed the man darting off in the opposite direction than the policeman when they drove away (after questioning him). Apparently when you call police to report suspicious activity, they don’t follow up with you so we’re all still unsure what he has been doing. I guess this is a friendly reminder to keep your eyes open and don’t be afraid to report activity that seems unusual.

In a possibly related note. The stairway on 45th and Hanford is constantly littered with beer cans and broken glass. It looks like the work of teens from the high school. I only say this because I have also seen school papers here. There is no street light there and it appears it is becoming a “regular” place for drinking and such. I have cleaned up the stairs a couple times.

I only put this in because I know this spot is only about a block from your house and would serve as a good spot for criminals to lay in wait of go to divide up the booty.

Stay alert everyone. My car was rifled through a few weeks ago. It was my fault that I left it unlocked, but it happened under a streetlight and seems very bold.

We had a guy in an old white van last summer who was picking up dogs. Scruffy looking white guy. I didn’t realize that was what he was doing but my neighbor called police when she saw he had a few dogs in the back and was trying to entice a stray to come to him. She gave police his license number but we haven’t seen him since and she did not get additional information from police. (24th & 100th SW by N. Shorewood Park).

Sorry, comment time is over.
