2 more politix pix: Obama crowd in Seattle, JP in Olympia

ADDED 6 PM: Thanks to Cami for sending this close-up photo from the Obama KeyArena rally:

From earlier:

That’s one more from Josh at KeyArena earlier, while Sen. Obama was speaking. If you squint at the stage on the lower right quadrant of the pic, you’ll see Rep. Adam Smith, Gov. Gregoire (in the reddish-pinkish top), and West Seattle’s Most Famous Politician (bringing that phrase back for old times’ sake) behind him. For those who asked if the speech was archived anywhere yet – just checked all four tv news sites, both dailies, plus Slog … not yet. Now, a photo from Olympia:

wedesmcdermottemmett.jpg

We told you last night that West Seattle’s state Sen. Joe McDermott was introducing a resolution today honoring Chris “JP Patches” Wedes on the 50th anniversary of the start of his classic local kids’ TV show. This pic sent by Sen. McDermott features him with Chris Wedes – sans the makeup – and the senator’s cousin Emmett Blake (“Patches Pals and West Seattleites both,” notes Sen. M). Also, he sent a link to the text of the resolution introduced today.

  • denny February 8, 2008 (4:43 pm)

  • denny February 8, 2008 (4:53 pm)

Gertrude – the first (known) cross-dressing VP

  • Joe McDermott February 8, 2008 (4:55 pm)

    Draft J.P.!

  • acemotel February 8, 2008 (4:59 pm)

WOW. I have NEVER seen JP Patches without makeup, and that goes back many many many years.

  • Trisket February 8, 2008 (7:15 pm)

    JP totally rocks!

  • The House February 8, 2008 (8:20 pm)

I seriously would vote for JP Patches before Obama.

there you go, House…you’ve found your candidate :)

I’ve wanted to ask you…since you don’t like Hillbilly, or Obama…or McCain…if it’s McCain against one or the other in Nov. are you just going to skip it?, write in someone? who is it on the Republican side that you’d really like to see be the candidate…and it doesn’t necessarily have to be one of the guys running…I’m just curious what’s in your head..:)

acemotel, I hadn’t seen him without makeup either, except for the older pic shown here earlier, that is also in his book, until a TV interview with him from maybe three years ago.

    .

I was quite surprised how good he looks for his age. Dunno if it’s his Greek heritage, which IMO, people of mediterrainian (sp?) ethnicity seem to hold their age well, or something in the makeup, or removal creams that has had a benificial effect on his skin quality. :)

    “If you squint….”

You might be able to see something of substance…

Sorry, my bad, seems only dogs can hear nothing at those decibels…

    I hadn’t seen him without makeup either…

OMG…let’s put him on “Make Me The Next SuperModel”

and you think GW was voted in for shallow reasons….look in the mirrow, kiddies…

    JanS:

I’ll be serious for a moment here and say this: I would MUCH rather have Ms. Clinton (give me props for addressing her properly) than B.O. (he truly DOES stink) in matters of foreign policy…10x fold.

You should quiver in your patent-leather liberal boots with this man leading this country during a time of war…the thought of attempting to command respect from the DOD, Pentagon and SD, is utterly frightening….

    Worse than Kerry.

  • Kayleigh February 9, 2008 (4:45 am)

Yes, if Obama led foreign policy, we might be the victim of a terrible terrorist attack, or we might lose stature in the eyes of the world, or we might be immersed in an unwinnable war….oh wait, all that already happened under President Bush.

  • JanS February 9, 2008 (5:45 am)

OP…why do you say that about Obama…what is it about him that has you so scared? Exactly what has our president president done but dig us deeper, and alienated us from most all of our foreign friends.

  • JanS February 9, 2008 (5:48 am)

oh…and OP…the comment that was made about “I hadn’t seen him without makeup either…”? That was about Chris Wedes, the man who was JP Patches…not about Barack Obama…he doesn’t wear make-up.

  • Gina February 9, 2008 (7:47 am)

OP, better click on the “classic local kid’s show” link in the main story above. Don’t want anyone to worry about cross dressing VP candidates…

Which reminds me, wanted to mention something about Gertrude. Unfortunately I don’t think she/he would be on the ticket. In December, an organization I belong to answered the phones during the KCTS pledge drive as JP and Gertrude were in-studio guests during an airing of a program about their show’s history. Gertrude announced it was his/her last time appearing in public AS Gertrude, and took off the wig at the end of the hour. (On live TV.)

Bob Newman, aka Gertrude, Ketchikan the Animal Man, GGGGGoooorrrssst the Friendly Frple, Boris S Wort (the second most evil man in the world), Miss Smith the Delivery Lady, and other characters, retired Gertrude a few years back as WSB mentioned.

    .

Bob has since appeared at a few events as Ketch, but had to cut way back due to health issues. He has been afflicted with MS for probably 40 years now. I never knew this, until I was at an event they attended in recent years. Bob mentioned he collapsed on the Set one day back in the ’60’s.

    .

I admire his attitude about it, that he has it, so he just deals with it.

    .

Both of these guys are class acts. In character and out.
