Crash closes eastbound West Seattle Bridge at Fauntleroy

2:35 PM UPDATE: Everything’s open again now.

ORIGINAL REPORT: Breaking news from WSB contributor Christopher Boffoli: A crash has closed the bridge heading toward downtown, around Fauntleroy. 911 website shows 2 fire/medic units on the scene. Sounds like they are diverting cars from Fauntleroy to Avalon. Right now you can see that on this city traffic cam showing the blocked-off Fauntleroy entrance to the bridge; here’s the latest image … 3 PM NOTE, live traffic cams now removed from this post because they’re no longer relevant BUT here’s an earlier photo of the 35th roadblock, thanks to Eric for sending it:

we were the first people to stop and check on the woman in the vehicle that was hit. she was incredibly shaken and upset. it apppears that a grey honda accord merged right into her lane and pinned her up against the median. her car was in horrible shape. the honda left the scene. she was calling 911 when i arrived. i sat with her in the vehicle until more help arrived. lucky for her, an off duty member of the fire department stopped and checked her or injuries. that’s when the fire dept arrived. kudos to them for a speedy arrival. now my hopes are they find the person who hit her. no one should have to go through what she experienced today. she’s lucky she was in an suv. anything smaller could have resulted in something much worse.

Thanks, k, so it was a hit/run – bad. Good that you stopped to help. It happened in one of those spots that’s impossible to see from anywhere else – we roamed the neighborhoods on the northeast slopes looking for a vantage point to get a better idea of what was going on and could only see a hint of the police cars there, roughly parallel with Nucor, from quite some distance.

I was driving with a friend today, another WS resident, and we tried to get on the bridge near 35th/Fauntleroy, which was blocked off by police. So my friend decided to check her laptop to see if the news was on the West Seattle Blog. Just then another friend called me from his cell phone and asked whether we had checked the WSB for news on what was happening on the bridge. Just to let you know, everybody’s talkin’……….. WSB has become the go-to place for news, even for people you would never imagine even read blogs.

Acemotel, you have no idea how happy that makes us feel. Considering the Seahawks game had started and the sun was shining, we thought, wow, is this item going to be like the equivalent of the tree falling in the forest with no one to hear .. and yet we knew we’d post it anyway because that’s our mission … Also kudos again to Christopher for getting first word to us (and therefore to everybody else out there) during a moment when we actually had turned the scanner off and closed the browser window with the live 911 log!

Sorry, comment time is over.
