Traffic alert: Fender-bender on The Bridge

Leave a few minutes early if you come from the Fauntleroy end of The Bridge – there’s a four-car fender-bender blocking the left lane on the eastbound side, roughly parallel with Delridge. Note the solid block of headlights in the background of this west-facing bridgecam (8:35 AM UPDATE: the city has shifted the camera angle, and it’s now simply showing the backup, still looking west):

Here’s the backup on Fauntleroy (camera pointing east):

8:18 AM SIDE NOTE: We just heard the first radio traffic report about the Bridge problem on our news station of choice — one hour after it happened. As with other matters of WS-specific interest, we will do our best to monitor traffic trouble for you during rush hours, and we also appreciate your help — if you see a problem on a route into, out of, or within West Seattle, you can call or text us at 206-293-6302 (2062936302@vmobl.com) and one of us will post as soon as possible to get the word out.

What a mess this was; it’s backed up pretty far in both directions on 35th too. Thankfully I took a chance on a shortcut and avoided the bulk of the mess!

Thank you WSB!! You are a life saver- without this posting I wouldn’t know what was going on!

Congestion (at least the 2 southern lanes to get on HWY 99) completely cleared up when I passed on the bus at about 7:55am.

    This site is sooooo Awesome!

I learned my lesson once to check the blog before heading out. By doing so I was able to get around this mess. The details are key….With the accident parallel to Delridge, the key was getting down to Delridge as that was clear sailing. I got off Fauntleroy, down Avalon, then over to Delridge…was to work in almost record time!

    Thanks again!

I got on the 55 at the Alaska junction at 8:10, and have only made it to 35th and Alaska! (it is now 8:35)

Don’t head out if you can avoid it.

I got this info off my blackberry while waiting in traffic before it hit the radio! WSB – you are awesome.

BTW – what happened at the cement plant on the east side of the bridge…it looked like a tower collapsed (lots of dust in the air)…One side of a large concrete tower had crumbled – not sure if this was planned.

  • Anony December 12, 2007 (8:53 am)

    Lou –

I’m sure it was planned as all the local TV news stations would’ve had a field day.

I saw mobile crane near the demolition last week…

Wow, we’ll have to check into that. As per anony’s comment, as a former TV news person, yes, of course a planned demolition would generally generate tons of coverage, but we’re not seeing anything out there … hmm.

I heard some really loud explosions in the Admiral district about 8 AM .. thought it was Shucks being demolished but no dice.

WSB – great to have the option for texting you now! Can you accept pix that way too? Granted, may not be posting quality, but another way to communicate with you.

  • WSB December 13, 2007 (7:02 am)

GHO – the texting address goes to a phone without photo capability, unfortunately, but you could also program our e-mail address into your camphone and send us a pic that way.

  • GenHillOne December 13, 2007 (8:01 am)

LOL, I’ll see if I – the technically challenged – can figure out how to do that ;)

Sorry, comment time is over.
