Boozeless Bamboo (temporarily)

Thanks to WSB reader Venkat for the tip that Bamboo Bar & Grill on Alki is mighty dark tonight — because of a big orange notice posted out front from the Washington Liquor Control Board: Liquor license suspended. We went by for a closer look; too dark for us to make out the exact dates on the notice – looked fairly short term — but we could read that the suspension was for “furnishing alcohol to minors.” We can’t find a press release about the suspension on the Liquor Control Board website, but did see info there that Bamboo was fined $350 for the same thing in May, then fined $1500 for the same thing in October. SUNDAY NIGHT UPDATE: Looks like the suspension’s over; Bamboo’s open again.

Finally they got more than a slap on the hand. The Bamboo has been pushing it ever since they opened.

The place also has a real problem with over-service.

It does not amaze me that this has happened. We have gone to Bamboo since it opened and have always thought that the bar had issues in the way it was run. One of the current ( past ? ) bartenders usually has to be pulled away from talking to her boyfriend ( the owner ) and is miffed when she has to do her job and make a drink. When the manager ( Randy ) is in sight the place runs well but whenever he is gone it goes downhill. I will miss my Tiki Bowls and hope that they can clean up their act… how hard is it to check ID 100% of the time on anyone under 40 ?

let’s hope we get a better place in it’s stead. places like that are notorious for not cleaning up their act. better to close and open a legit place of business. i know i don’t want to support a place that serves minors.

Wouldn’t mind seeing it replaced with an upscale Asian Fusion Seafood place…or the like.

I checked that place out about a week ago. Among their various “specialty drinks” was one called Trailer Trash and another known affectionately as Liquid Cocaine. ’nuff said.
